Hotel 3 bintang Rome

This is a beautiful church, famous for its crucifixion relics, with a monastery wrapped around it. Don’t think of it as a hotel! But it does have a roof top terrace. The room that we were given was one of 2 that were in the church. The other 81 rooms were in the monastery. From what I can tell, the other rooms might be okay. Ours was a cell, with a small circular window that didn’t open. We discovered that this cell was one of the two rooms that were within the actual church! We thought it was quirky, but would have liked an opening window to have had some fresh air. All the staff were brilliant. The breakfast was very basic - mainly bread, cheese, ham, yoghurt and cereal. Not great, but adequate - and in keeping with the austere food that one might expect in a monastery. The site was a bit out from the centre of Rome, but trams stopped outside, and the nearest Metro station, St Giovanni, was just a 10 minute walk away. I grew fond of it, and would stay again. But would look for a more traditional hotel, nearer to Terme train station, next time.

We had a great experience at this hotel and the rooms are surprisingly big for Europe with lots of space in the bedroom and a roomy bathroom. The front desk was also very friendly and helpful. The hotel's location is very convenient and we were a 10 minute walk to Roma Termini and within a half an hour walk of the many sights of Rome like the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps. There are many good restaurants in the area too.

So many downsides to this hotel...... Lift only goes to 5th floor then you have to lug your suitcases and belongings up a staircase with no air-con. Lift is very slow and only three people are allowed in it at a time. Aircon blows slightly cool, very humid air into the room so be ready to sweat when just sitting still! We told the hotel about it and they came up and just adjusted the lever so that the slightly cool, humid air would blow in a different direction in the room. They didn't add freon to the unit, they didn't clean the filters of the unit. It's going to be 100 degrees today in Rome. Air cons should work and work well. Water in the shower oscillates from luke warm to scalding and back and forth so be careful. Shower curtain is old and yellow but used to be white. Water gets in the floor from the shower because the curtain won't close all the way. The towels are thin and not good quality. Bed topping looks like something from the 60”s and does not look clean! It's the same material as the curtains - pretty gross. The hotel front desk wants your key turned in every time you leave the hotel. We gave them our key, went out to pick up some water. When we came back they couldn't find it immediately and accused us of keeping it. Thank goodness one of the front desk ladies remembered that she had indeed taken our key! The hotel wants you to pay in cash only. So if you don't have cash you have to go to the ATM and you end up paying a fee for the international withdrawal and it is not a small fee. Pillows are flat. Bedding is not up to par with what a 3 star hotel should be. Some good things: It is relatively quiet. We are on the 6th floor. Our TV worked and did have English channels. I watched Big Bang Theory. This hotel is close to the train station. There are many restaurants and shops around here. I thought breakfast was good but I don't eat it. I had coffee. They have a machine that make cappuccino and lattes. I loved it. The breakfast items are carb heavy. Lots of pastries, cakes and bread. They did have some salami and other meat. I would not recommend this hotel or stay here again.

Good choice of hotel if you want to be near Rome Termini station as it was easy to get to and about less than 10 minutes walk to the hotel. When I arrived at the reception, there wasn't anyone there so I rang the bell and had to wait a short while until someone came to check me in. After checking into my room, they gave me a double bed with a single bed. I presume they didn't have any standard double only bedrooms so gave me a triple but that wasn't an issue as I just put my stuff on the single bed and slept in the double bed. Everything else was working fine, I was out exploring most of the day and just needed somewhere to sleep. But I did find the furnishings could do with a slight updating, but apart from that, I had a good stay.

As far as European 3 star hotels go - this one ticks most boxes. Incredibly central. Close to Termini and a plethora of local, well priced restaurants. Walking distance to Trevi and Spanish steps. Clean, very basic rooms. Aircon worked Staff professional, though English an issue - not bad at all though. Well priced by comparison to the market.

Hotel is very basic but very pleasant. I'm writing review right now because I simply forgot but I think hotel deserved one . We were on city break for three nights. Hotel staff especially Gulia from reception are very nice and very helpful with any issues. Room was on first floor just above reception .Very basic and quite small for four people but we used only for refreshing shower on late afternoon before going out again and night sleep ( it was 40 degrees in August). Bathroom and toilet modern and functional. Aircon was working very well. We used breakfast just once 10 euro p/p. There is nice breakfast room with outside seating area. Food choice and quality were ok but nothing special. Not busy though. Hotel is clean and family run. Because this is just tall Roman town house it has smallest lift I ever seen. Capacity : one skinny person :-) . Greatest hotel feature is location. Walking distance to colosseum and Termini train station, great base for Rome exploration. If you expecting anything else, Verona hotel isn't for out. Would I recommend: yes, would I come back: yes.
