I had the most amazing stay at the Hampton Inn and Suites. The executive manager ensured I had a wonderful stay. She was so friendly and welcoming, which made me feel at ease in a country I had never visited before. I would also like to note that the young blonde housekeeping member of staff, I think her name was Haylee, was fantastic. Finally the breakfast I loved. I would definitely come back to stay at such a friendly hotel. I truly has the best stay.

The older hotel, while connected to a conference center, is perfectly situated for walking downtown. Parking is free in a connected garage, a bonus in the heart of the city. Terri at the front desk made us feel welcome and even upgraded our room to a suite with claw-foot tub. Nancy in the restaurant was cheerful and sunny on our rainy day. Room itself was large, bed was comfortable and towels were fluffy. There was a gas fireplace, which we used for heat. Wi-Fi was good. In all, a nice stay!

This will be our sixth different Hilton we have had the pleasure of staying in. We tend to find that of all the Hilton brands, the Hilton itself is a cut above some of the others (except of course the unique resorts and the Curio properties). This one was OK, not exceptional. We had been given an upgrade, so we were expecting something special and exciting. It really was just ordinary. The room was the size of a typical Hampton Inn (although larger than the European hotels). We were given free continental breakfast, and that was really ho-hum. Hampton Inns provide much more. Muffins were tasteless, and the fruit cups were tiny and not exciting. Coffee was good, and the service was good. The one bizarre finding was power in the bathroom. We always bring our electric toothbrush that needs charging, and a nightlight for added safety in the night. Neither would operate with the bathroom lights turned off. Apparently the outlets turn off too. Not a great set-up. Our view was nice, and that was part of the upgrade.

Rodeway Inn Saint John

We booked this hotel on-line, listed as a member of the Choice Hotel line (and therefore with member benefits), but with the name Saint John Inn. When we arrived, we could see the original sign was covered with a fabric one and the “new” name of Saint John Inn on the sign. It will be a Rodeway Inn when they get all the transactions done. It is pet-friendly. The room was adequate. It was on the ground floor with a patio door to the outside. We never could figure out how to take off the lock to open the patio door however. It did have a microwave and fridge with a freezer compartment. While there was coffee in the lobby, there was no breakfast (COVID?). One of the doors by the office (but in the hallway) to the outside had a sign saying EXIT only, yet, it didn’t latch so people could come and go just by pulling it open and bypassing the desk. The staff was friendly and helpful in their recommendations for food. The “high-speed internet” wasn’t high-speed at all. And there were no security/password measures to use the internet. When we arranged for the room, on-line, we went to the website, which said that people who stayed during the week could get a $5 Tim Hortons or Starbucks gift card or other options, just for staying. We registered for one of them. But when we asked at the front desk, they didn’t know anything about it. There was even a poster stating about it in the hall way, but still no recognition of the offer. All they could do was give me a phone number to call, which gave me another number to call for customer relations. They didn’t know about it, but ended up transferring me to a fellow who tried to sell me a 4 day/3 night vacation package to stay at one of their hotels and listen to the time-share sales pitch. Probably won’t stay there again.
