My girlfriend and I stayed a SO Sotogrande for a week on a working holiday just to get some guaranteed sun and we could not have predicted to have what turned out to be one of the best European holidays we have had and loved it so much we have started planning to move there. We originally booked this as we had a lot of points from Accor to use and this allowed us to use our suite upgrade perk for the entire week and when we arrived we got upgraded again to a suite with a garden. The room was lovely with a very nice front garden which was really green, a very spacious and lovely bathroom and an entry hall with a covered patio which was lovely to sit at and play some cards or take a work call. We loved the room and the bed was large and comfortable, the only complaint is that the private patio out the back of the bathroom smelled really bad from the drain out there so it wasn’t pleasant to sit at all. The food at the hotel is fantastic, I read a lot of reviews saying the food was good but as a very discerning diner I was sceptical about the food in the hotel but honestly we were so pleasantly surprised, it was the best hotel food I have had outside of the Maldives. The tapas bar open from 6-11:30 is really good, the food is all incredible and the cocktails are amazing, the cocktails are expensive and more equivalent to central London Prices but the food is good value especially considering you are eating in a hotel. The only issue was one night we went just for a cocktail and waited 40 minutes after ordering for them still to not arrive so we had to leave to go to our dinner reservation. Marxa is their sort of mid level restaurant with Cortijo being their fine dining option but we didn’t dine their. Marxa is wonderful and the manager is very friendly and attentive making sure everything is ok and you have a great time. The food is very good and portions are huge, lots of grill options and all produce used is really good quality. The breakfasts are great too all with lovely service. The service generally is also really good, everyone has a big smile when you interact with them and they all seem to enjoy what they are doing which is great. Only small thing was a policy issue when I asked if a couple of extra glasses and some ice could be brought to the room they said that would be €5 which for that I felt just left a little bit of a bad taste and not reflective of the rest of the hotel experience. The other thing that felt slightly stingy was the fact that in the room we were only given 1 wine glass each and 1 water glass each, zero cutlery or even a spoon, zero mugs for the coffee machine and no water was given in the room either. The location is fantastic with amazing views of the undiscovered gem that is Sotogrande, set on the back of the hill behind Sotogrande in an exclusive housing area, only 10 minutes drive to the beach and marina, 30 minutes to Marbella and Gibraltar. For a relaxing holiday with good food I could not recommend it more
