We visited The Vila Gale in Santa Cruz earlier this month and had one of the most wonderful and relaxing holidays ever.... We were a little nervous before we went as there were a couple of negative reviews which were quite concerning, all we can say is please please just ignore them...in fact we were laughing with fellow guests just how ridiculous they were. The hotel itself is spotless, the staff are all without exception friendly, competent and extremely hard working... special mention to Christina and Katrina on reception, Sandra, Louisa and the lady with the big smile in the Restaurant and pool bar and Catrina in the Spa who helped make our holiday special as did all the staff.. The food in the restaurant was excellent, I am vegetarian and was never stuck for something to eat...yes, not everything is labelled but all you do is ask and the staff will advise...If you are staying for 7 days or over you can visit the Al a Carte restaurant....we definitely recommend! The spa and it's facilities again are spotless, you have to wear a swimming cap in the indoor pool but you can buy one from the hotel if you don't have one. Sandra Cruz is a beautiful quiet location with little shops and restaurants...all on the doorstep... We never go back to the same place twice but there is always a first..,we have booked a cheeky little week back there next month and are so looking forward to our visit

The hotel is a nice place to stay. The people at the reception and in the restaurant are very helpful and friendly and the service was always good. The rooms are clean and comfortable. In the hotel, they had a delicious buffet for breakfast, which differed each morning. In the evening, there was a three course menu in which you could choose your main dish. The food was tasty. The hotel is located a few hundred meters from Santa Cruz, where you can find a couple restaurants and bars. We enjoyed our stay and we would defenitly recommend this place.

Fantastyczny hotel! Położenie przy samym oceanie, bezpłatny shutlle bus do centrum Funchal, restauracja tematyczna ala carte, przepyszne jedzenie - urozmaicone i sporo owoców morza, all inclusive działa bez zarzutu - nie wiem która sangria lepsza czerwona czy biała. Pokoje czyściutkie funkcjonalna duża łazienka. Wieczorem animacje w tym portugalski folklor - pozdrawiam Filipa z recepcji który skradł show :) Obsługa na światowym najwyższym poziomie - Jeśli Madera to na pewno RIU. Widok z restauracji z tarasu sztos do potęgi. Niedaleko hotelu na końcu promenady można wybrać się na klif poza szlakiem.

The Rocomar Hotel in Madeira is in a great location - the ocean views are fantastic, and being able to dive straight into the ocean is something you do not often get the opportunity to do at most hotels. There are also several nice spots to lounge in the sun, either by the pools or as you walk down to the sea. However, there are several aspects which make the hotel seem more like a 3* than the advertised 4*. Although breakfast is standard like most hotels, the options at lunch and dinner are incredibly limited. The salad bar is quite limited with many hotel staples not being available, and the hot dishes were not that varied. There were often no vegan or vegetarian options, and some of the fish options were not very appetising. For a hotel on an island, the over reliance on tinned tuna was disappointing. Most of the staff were very friendly and polite, however, the bar staff in the evening at the main restaurant / bar were quite rude and dismissive. The all inclusive drinks options were limited compared to other hotels (there only served white rum and not dark) and, at times, the bar staff seemed to avoid those who were all inclusive for those who were paying for each round of drinks purchased. The Wi-Fi often was not working (or working very slowly) but allowances can be made for this. The A/C in the room broke on the forth night and when reception were informed, the response was “I cannot do anything about that”. It took a further three days and another visit to reception for it to eventually be fixed. There are many good aspects to the hotel, one being the second bar by the pool, and the rooms are comfy and spacious. A good place to stay for the week, but maybe for bed and breakfast only. There were a number of nice restaurants in the local areas, as well as Funchal itself, which are well worth a visit. Overall, a good base for exploring Funchal and the rest of the island.

I’m writing this review whilst sitting in one of the hotel’s bright and airy lounges. The views are amazing and as near to the ocean as you can get without actually getting your feet wet! The hotel is wonderful, 10/10 in every respect. And I’m fairly fussy, having worked in top end hospitality for many years, and as an accommodation assessor for Visit Britain. The bedroom is comfortable with a quality mattress and lovely bed linen, plenty of storage space and a huge TV The bathroom has a great shower and everything works as it should. We are on the 5th floor with a sea view room and it is breathtaking! And the sound of the waves crashing onto the beach has rocked us to sleep every night. We booked bed & breakfast but have eaten dinner in the restaurant on 3 evenings out of 7 - lovely fresh food, usual buffet style but lots of choice with loads of salads, vegetables and fruits. The breakfast buffet is one of the best I have ever experienced - even when compared to 5 star hotels. Everywhere is immaculately clean and well maintained - not a single issue or complaint here! And finally, but definitely not least, the staff - they are the jewel in this fantastic hotel’s crown. Everyone has gone out of their way to ensure our stay is the best it can be. Special mention to Liliana and Leandro on reception who have gone above and beyond for us. We have had the most wonderful week and really don’t want to go home! Our flight back to the UK has been cancelled due to high winds so we have an extra day here and are absolutely delighted! Thank you so much to everyone at the Four Views Oasis. We very much enjoyed our stay here. It’s part of a resort of three hotels that share the same facilities. We had two rooms both with a lovely sea view and balcony. The small kitchenette was basic and a tiny bit limited but ok for basic cooking. Only one room had a coffee machine. We only ate once in the main self-service restaurant which was enjoyable but slightly overpriced. We loved happy hour at the bar and also enjoyed the evening entertainment. All the staff were very helpful though the waiting time at reception could be long as there was generally only one person on the desk. We hired a car were able to park for free on the street outside the hotel and the hotel has a car park (€7.50/day). There are a few shops within walking distance. There are quite a few steps around the hotels though I think most areas are accessible by ramp or lift, but possibly not the pools. Thanks for a wonderful holiday.
