Hotel 3 Bintang di Santa Maria e São Miguel

First, Sintra, Portugal isn't a great place to be if you don't like hill climbing to an extreme - unless you're going to bring a chauffeur along or use an electric bike or scooter. That said, Villas de Cintra is at the bottom of a STEEP hill with a road not open to public travel because it is barely wide enough for 1 vehicle. EVERY time you want to leave the property there is a steep hill to deal with. If you don't mind the hill, you will probably really like this place - and anywhere you stay in Sintra is on a hill or right by one. If not for the hill, I would have given a rating of 5 - and really 4.5 would be more accurate than 4. AND THE GOOD PART is that the staff are charming, helpful and would seem to go out of the way for anything you want within reason. Anyone should enjoy the warm welcome and friendly atmosphere here. One caveat: the office is open only 9 AM - 6 PM. Everything is squeaky clean - I like tile floors for that. It is attractively decorated and just gives off a good vibe. Up to date equipment all the way around is also a benefit. The kitchen is very compact, but has everything needed: microwave, stovetop, fridge, sink, pots, pans, dishes, silverware, towels. The little refrigerator/freezer unit isn't big, but is sufficient and cold and the separate top freezer is perfect. The heat & A/C unit is the best I've seen anywhere. Keeps the temperature right on the money and is easy to learn the control - not so different than many others, except this one works. Always plenty of HOT water and great water pressure. The patio and ”back yard” area is nicely lit after dark (until very late but not all night) without being overly bright. WiFi is good! There is a problem with no decent place to sit and work on your computer. The little desk doesn't have a nearby electrical outlet. The bar is quite nice, but the folding, metal barstools are AWFUL. The seat is too small by far - I'm not a big person (5'8 - 160#), but the sides of my legs hang over the defined edges of the seats and make sitting for any time painful. It is also necessary to use good shoes when sitting because the tiny bars as ”foot rests” are thin tubing that will just cripple sock or bare feet. It seems strange that after doing everything else so well they would get barstools like these... I did find a cushion that made the seat bearable. Overall, definitely recommended.

Memorable stay. Hotel is well and tastefully renovated. Parking available is a big plus. Hotel is high in the hill and near to the moorish castle. A memorable stay. Lots of birds and very very nice. The service is fantastic and very friendly host.

Myself and my 4 year old son stayed here for a weekend, and it was fantastic! We received excellent communication from the front desk via email as we arrived after check in, which meant we could get straight up to our room upon arrival. It's in a great location, and has modern, clean, fresh décor and super friendly staff. The bed was comfortable, bathroom spacious and A/C. There was plenty of extra bedding in the cupboards too which meant you could change the sheet for a duvet if the weather suddenly changed. The breakfast was a good price, and great continental selection; my son ate everything in sight, and they even went above and beyond to make him pancakes as a treat! There was an honesty bar available throughout the day too for any quick snacks or drinks which was reasonably priced. There's a local grocery shop, pharmacy, café and restaurants all 5mins walk away too which is so useful when travelling with children. Sintra itself was beautiful, my son loved the views, visiting Quinta da Regaleira and spotting the 'castles!' on top of the hills. Do be aware Sintra has a micro climate so the weather can be breezy and cooler than expected! Thank you to all the staff and friendly guests for making us feel so at home, and 100% recommend this lovely hotel.

Outstanding hotel in a perfect location with excellent service. We stayed one night in Sintra and really enjoyed this hotel. It’s around the corner from the train station (we took the train back to Lisbon) and close to everything you need in Sintra. The staff speaks English and werekind, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious and served early (8am) which was nice. Truly a very nice hotel.

We fell in love with this hotel when we first visited in 2022, and we returned with my aunt and uncle for now our third stay. As usual, everything was outstanding. Spectacular views, incredibly friendly and warm staff, over the top breakfasts, lovely evening wine and cheese service…. And we were happy to be reunited with our peacock friends! The only problem is that this hotel is too beautiful, too perfect… and no other hotel can compare (my aunt complained bitterly for the rest of our Portugal trip that our subsequent hotels just did not live up to the standard set by Sintra Marmoris Palace!) Hotel ini sangat dekat dengan stesen kereta api, dan mudah untuk mencarinya mengikut navigasi. Halaman luarnya cantik, dan lobi serta kawasan awam juga cantik. Namun, kerana ia adalah rumah lama, tiada lif, dan jika anda tinggal di tingkat yang tinggi, anda perlu membawa beg pakaian anda untuk naik. Ini pada asasnya masalah di hotel di mana anda tinggal di rumah lama di Portugal. Kami menempah suite dengan loteng kecil dan balkoni kecil di luar loteng dengan pemandangan indah. Sarapan pagi adalah kedai kopi mereka sendiri, bukan dengan tempat tinggal mereka, ia sangat dekat, tidak sampai 5 minit. Sarapan pagi adalah gaya Barat, dengan roti, keju, pencuci mulut, buah-buahan, secawan jus dan kopi setiap orang, yang cukup menyelerakan.

We had a very pleasant stay at Casa Holstein. The hotel is set in large, expansive grounds, with little hidden paths one can explore. There's even a beautiful peacock who wanders around. The hotel is contained in an old estate and has a bygone sense of charm. Our room was very large and comfortable. The bathrooms (we had two) were very spacious and well appointed. The shower was excellent. The host was very pleasant and available to help and answer questions. They served breakfast at the hotel. Highly recommend!
