Pelican Sands Scamander

Coming to Pelican Sands is like arriving at a demolition site. Half-finished messy (dangerous) brick paving, unkept gardens and weeds at the front door and rubbish lying around the perimeter. That's the good bit. We thought our unit (3) had brown/black tile grouting - wrong - it was actually ingrained dirt and rust. There is a hole in the roof, patchy half-painted walls with plug holes everywhere. The bar fridge would be OK for a one-night motel but totally unsuitable for a holiday unit. The whole place needs to be emptied, thoroughly cleaned, repaired, and repainted. And the "piece de resistance" There is a nice two seater couch, you can sit there at night watching, your bed! Three hundred bucks a night at Christmas - forget it.

On first appearance it seems like they are upgrading the front of the motel. I believe it was very messy when they bought it. The rooms are immaculate. The view took me straight to our private balcony. Absolutely stunning view straight across the lake to the sea. I’d heard some people caught a kg of prawns in the lake in front of us the day before. Laundry next door. The King size bed was The most comfortable bed we’d slept on in our whole trip. Extras pillows if we wanted. Nice size lounge/ bedroom. Excellent sized fridge. There’s a local wine you can buy in the room. Reasonably priced cheap cold drinks in the fridge. I would totally recommend staying here. The transaction of payment was extremely easy. Thank you for your hospitality. 10/10

The owner “Shelly”was very friendly, welcoming and helpful, rooms well appointed , clean and decorated beautifully. The view was SUPERB and watching and listening to the waves was pure magic! Free WiFi and a smart tv great additions! We ate at the local restaurant and had the best coffee and breakfast at the little cafe on the waterfront a short walk over the bridge. Overall a 10/10 for Scamander! Very close drive to Binalong Bay, Bay of Fires another 10/10 St Helens and a lovely country drive to the Pub in the Paddock. We can’t wait to come back!

Drove to Pelican Sands Scamander from the Spirit of Tasmania boat, the drive took 3 hours. Drove into premises with plain frontage. WOW, but inside unit 4 was a well-equipped, clean 1 bedroom unit. Large fridge and freezer. King size, very comfortable bed. The aspect from the sliding glass doors at the back opens to a stunning view of the ocean, with picnic tables on the green lawn leading to the water. A deck at the back of unit allows you to sit with a coffee and enjoy the ambience. A short walk over the bridge will lead you to River Mouth Cafe and a Modern Hotel (Scamander Beach Resort) with great views of the Ocean. The Pelican Sands host Shelley and her offsider Chrissy were on the site. We found them very welcoming and helpful. Willing to accommodate any special needs. Mark and Karen July 2023

Awesome fantastic place to stay. If I came to Scamanda again we would stay here. Lovely room & great cooking facilities. Peaceful. Fantastic view & walking distance to an awesome coffee shop over the bridge. Room was 10/10 with a great bathroom, hot water. Warm with aircon & it was cold outside. We chilled on the porch & I read my book in between watching the waves. Good fridge too & extremely clean & comfortable bed I could have stayed longer- fire place outs too if we wanted.

We LOVED our stay in Cottage 4. It was a wonderful pleasant surprise as we found the place at random during our Tasmania road trip. Regrettably, we only had time for a two night stay. Unit was well presented and clean. Patio deck off back with ocean views. Walkable small town, easy access to restaurants and bottle shop. Check-in and out process was very easy. We would love to stay here again.
