Friendly and efficient staff at lobby, bed comfy, AC worked well, and shower was hot and incredibly powerful.

Fair hotel, easily accessible to many places and many train stations. The hotel has good breakfast and meals restaurants.

The hotel is nicely located and very cheap. The staff is friendly. Unfortunately, that is everything positive I can tell about this hotel. The air conditioning was switched off and only provided heating. Since it was a sunny day, the hotel room had already 26’C, the only way to cool the room down was to get maintenance service and open the window manually. This exposed the room to the loudness of the nearby highway. Although I was on the 25th floor and had ear plugs I could hardly sleep through the noise of the cars. The bed is rather short, if you are longer than 183cm you will have a bad time. There were many stains and dirt in the room as depicted in the pictures. The shower was mouldy. In summary, it is good for a short and cheap stay if you don’t mind uncleanliness, but otherwise would not visit again. City Hotel is 35 years old and parts of it are tired. Rooms are renovated but to different standards. However, the service was outstanding. I had a small issue with my room at check in and it was promptly sorted by Gigi Tan and Eason Zhu. Location is central with loads of cocktail bars and small restaurants in the area. Metro about 15 min walk. Breakfast is good value and the indoor pool was surprisingly warm (and not just lukewarm as most hotel pools). Do note it is not a private pool for guests but shared with a leisure centre, so it can get busy.

Room is spacious and super clean Staffs service is good and friendly,. Nice and cosy Room If I happen to be in Shanghai again definitely I will choose to stay at city hotel again. Thumb up for this hotel

It’s an off style hotel but it’s convenient in terms of price and location. The breakfast is good for the money. It has a nice pool and gym.

Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. Breakfast had western options as well. At reception there was one lady who could assist a bit in English when we checked in. We could not order room service as they only spoke Chinese. After going to reception, they send us to the restaurant on the 4th floor. There we found Sam who was able to assist in English and went out of his way to assist with all our other questions. Overall staff was very friendly.

Great location, this hotel is very good value for money. The major things are right: bed, bathroom and the breakfast at 58 rmb is good value and has great selection of Chinese foods.

Easy access from Yannan Gaojia if driving, and park underneath for 40rmb per night. Check-in was friendly and efficient. I have watched this place improve over the last 15 years. Service level is now close to international standard, and as good as it gets in China. For business travel I find it excellent. It is not a luxury hotel, but it is good and very decent value for money. And there are a few decent restaurant choices too.

We were allocated a room on 18th floor. The room had smell of old sock and instant noodle that never went away. Other then the smell, the room was quite old looking but it was the smell that bothered me the most. Plus we couldn't open our window. The part that I don't like is that even though my friend booked the same type of room, she received a newly renovated room and that was a nice room. I am a bit mad because for the same money, we got a shitty room.

Great location in the old French quarter. Windows don't have good soundproofing.

This hotel was incredibly affordable, with quick and efficient front desk staff. We were checked in within minutes, no questions or problems. The room was spacious with an amazing view. 100% recommend for an overnight or long stay.

Best hotel to stay in Shanghai. Location is top, very clean and comfy beds at a very reasonable price!
