A few days before our stay, we knew the weather was going to be bad. We had booked three nights, at approximately $500 per night, prepaid, and tried to cancel. They would not provide a refund, but they did allow us to shorten our visit to two nights. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we drove 7 hours and arrived at 10 pm. The restaurant was closed, but they allowed us to pre-order the duck salad, and the service was nice. But the salad was mostly inedible unless you like hard internal organs like hearts and livers. At 11 pm, they took us to our room, which was in a building three blocks away from the main hotel. We had Room 9. To get there, we had to walk up a steep staircase. Room 9 consists of a small seating area on the bottom, and a bedroom in the attic, accessible by a steep staircase/ladder. We are an older couple, so we asked the concierge to haul our bags upstairs. The bedroom is a death trap for older folks. The corner of the foot of the bed is much too close to the top of the ladder. A misstep in the middle of the night getting to the bathroom would cause someone to tumble down the steep stairs. But it was so late, we were too tired to try to get a different room. The bathroom was another problem. The shower door did not close properly. The hand shower leaked profusely. It was not possible to take a shower without soaking the bathroom floor. The next day the hotel staff moved us to room 5, down the hall. It was lovely, safe, roomy, and comfortable, and all on the same floor level. The breakfast was excellent. The buffet had plenty of breads, yogurt, fruits, cheeses, salmon, etc. Hot food was served a la carte. The eggs Benedict were perfect. The hotel is beautiful.
