On a bit of a whim my wonderful wife decided we were going to have a week in Skeggy, our second home (or so it feels). Being a bit last minute we had a limited selection of places to book. We stumbled on the Philmar, and seeing it's already glowing reviews called to see if they had rooms. In speaking with Joanne on the phone, I got the feeling that what we wanted they didn't have, but she juggled the rooms and made it work, that's a plus right there! On arrival we found on street parking right outside the hotel, but be warned it's a popular parking location so don't be surprised if you need to park further away on the street (lots of dropped kerbs and driveways). We'd called ahead (about an hour before we arrived) as Joanne had asked, and we're delighted to find that on arrival the rooms were ready for occupation even though we were a bit earlier than checkout (10am). We had room 2 overlooking the front of the property, there are no sea views here, but that's not a problem. The street is quiet of an evening, and ideal to retreat too after a day and night of the lights and sounds of Skegness front! The room was clean, tidy and I think had recently been updated in the bathroom with new walling and sealant (not a speck of black mould!). There is tea and coffee in the room along with a kettle and a hairdryer. Plenty of storage with a wardrobe, large chest of drawers and 2 hanging units by the beds. Bedside tables and lamps finsh the room. We also had a small table with 2 chairs, but not every room may have that. There are only 2 wall sockets easily accessible so I'd advise bringing a 4 way (just remember to turn it off when you go out!). The decor and colour whilst inoffensive may be considered a bit tired. As a host, Joanne was impeccable. Polite, willing, engaging and knowledgeable of the location I got the feeling there was nothing she wouldn't try to accommodate on request. We didn't stop B&B, but can attest the breakfasts smelt amazing!! We understand that Joanne has recently acquired the Philmar and intends to make it her own over the off season. Given the current state (which is great!) I cannot wait to see what she does with it. Would I come back to the Philmar Guest House anytime soon? You're damn right I would!!
