The Devonshire Fell Hotel

What a find this was. Came highly recommended to us by friends who are regular patrons here and we were not disappointed during our three nights stay 'back home in Yorkshire' for our first visit here in 20 years. Incredibly well run with very friendly staff who go out of their way to make things special. Very comfortable and spacious room with magnificent fell views. The dining options and breakfasts are exceptional as is the location of course. This was a true delight run with high standards of yesteryear. Enjoyed all that the location offers including the complimentary car park pass for Bolton abbey. The barn owls display at dusk was a true wonder to watch sat in the verandah restaurant overlooking the countryside.

Another fabulous couple of nights stay at this hidden gem. Beautiful surroundings and scenic walks. Extremely friendly and attentive staff. The hotel is very clean and rooms beautifully appointed. Pet friendly with treats waiting by the reception and Pawsecco or Bottom Sniffer beer available to treat your best friend. 😍 Bowls treats towel poo bags and a new ball all in your room. New Bistro menu is a great alternative to the a la carte menu. The village centre of Burnsall only a few minutes walk with a pub by the river serving good pub grub. Surrounding highlights are Bolton Abbey and the market town of Skipton with its castle and canal cruises.

Had a lovely experience staying four nights in a suite on the top floor. The views from our room and the dining areas were stunning. We love this area and happily walked along the river to Grassington and back on our first day. Hotel also gave us free entry to Bolton Abbey on our second day worth £15 which was a bonus. Small and friendly hotel. Food was very good and staff very pleasant but we ate out on two evenings as the menu was limited for a longer stay. Nice bar area for a pre dinner drink. Would be 5 stars but for the cleanliness of the room as a previous review mentioned. I wanted to use my toothbrush to clean round the bottom of the shower door and there was dust behind bedside cabinets which was visible as I used plug sockets behind the cabinets daily. Our room wasn’t hoovered either in four and we felt it should have been done at least once. That said, it was a lovely stay and we’d definitely return.

We stayed here for three nights in August in one of the large suites at the top. The location is absolutely fantastic and views from the room and restaurants are spectacular (look out for a rather ostentatious barn owl right outside in the early evening!). The staff at breakfast were efficient and friendly. The bath products were very good, and I appreciated the addition of moisturiser. Unfortunately, all the rest seemed to fall just short of the mark. The room was very large and spacious, but really needed a deep clean. The drawers had bits of rubbish in them, grubby door handles and tv remote, dust behind ornaments and tv, I don't think the extractor fans in the bathrooms had ever been cleaned and one of the first things I did was clean the mirror in the wardrobe because it had handprints smeared all over it. Not good enough for the premium price. The room had a bathroom and a shower room (yay), but the shower room smelled bad, we worked out why when we tried to have a shower the first night and the water didn't drain. We asked reception to fix the blocked drain and they said they would. It hadn't been fixed the following day so we asked again, and once again they said they would do so. It looked like housekeeping had had a go at it when we came up after breakfast the next day. When we got back that evening though, the girl at reception said they'd tried to fix it but it would require a plumber so we could use a different room to shower if we needed to. Obviously not necessary as we could shower in the bathroom, but it was annoying to have had to ask twice and to have the smell in the room. More annoyingly, the staff's response to the issue was indifference, they should have been embarrassed nd apologetic, but it seemed as if this sort of thing was standard. Again, not good enough for the premium price. The food. We had the a la carte menu in the dining room the first night. The food was ok, the service fine, there were no errors and nothing went wrong, but although they charged fine dining price, the only nod to fine dining was the fact that the portions were small. It did not seem as though enough care and attention had gone into the dishes and the quality of the ingredients did not stand out. Breakfast was ok; there was a good range of choice and the staff were kind and accommodating, but the full English wouldn't have been out of place in a Travel Lodge in quality. The bistro menu was again overpriced and pretentious, without the quality to back it up. Overall it would seem that this hotel aspires to a standard it doet not meet. The prices and descriptions promise far more than they deliver.

The hotel is located just above Burnsall with great views over the valley to the hills opposite. There is ample parking. The room was comfortable and with enough storage for a two night stay. The best thing was the food! Sadly we only had one evening meal in the hotel. It was really delicious with reasonable size portions so I was able to finish every dish. The service in the restaurant and in the bar/lounge was also very good. We are intending to return either before Christmas or again next summer

Spent two nights here on a summer break and was well impressed. The hotel has a super situation overlooking the river and Burnsall bridge and our room at the front was great with views to remember and very clean. From our arrival to departure staff were excellent and I really must mention the two lovely ladies Lily and Karolina who looked after us at dinner on both nights. The restaurant also has great views the only downside was the morbid piped music which was only fit for a funeral not a holiday . Other guests said the same. Food at dinner was very good but a limited menu - breakfast was excellent. Devonshire Fell is not cheap but the experience we had was it was worth every pound. I can thoroughly recommend this hotel

The location of The Devonshire Fell could not be more perfect. With its elevated position, the views are spectacular. Meals are taken in the dining room or conservatory which both have views of the river and stunning scenery. Breakfast is plentiful with continental and cooked meals. All this is table service by their friendly staff. We had dinner in both the À la cart and Brasserie restaurants and neither disappointed. Beautifully presented with innovative ingredients, the meals were delicious. Again the staff were friendly and informative. A short two minute walk takes you into the pretty village of Burnsall with a pub, a couple of tea shops and an ice cream shop. Sit beside the river with a picnic, with room for children to play on the grass or take a pretty riverside walk to take in the beauty of the scenery.

I had a couple of nights at the hotel and they were very pleasant. A peaceful venue in beautiful surroundings. A couple of things did let the experience down though : the room was quite cold looking due to its decor. There were no curtains, only blinds. The room felt too minimal. There was a big cobweb in the corner and a dead spider left in the bath. The staff kept a Hoover plugged in right outside my door which I felt took away from the atmosphere. . As the room was at the very end of the corridor, it felt as though standards did not appear to matter so much. My evening meal was pleasant enough but I did not feel it merited the cost. When I went down for breakfast, the member of staff had missed me out and I had to wait while a table was set up. Equally, when I first arrived at the hotel, the receptionist did not give me any information about breakfast arrangements. I felt in general that the hotel did not fully live up to my expectations based on what I had read on the website.

Had a great stay. The food is excellent both breakfast and dinner. Great staff all very attentive and helpful. The only negative for the weekend was the housekeeping in the bedroom and the decor in the bedroom is looking very tired. When we arrived the bin still had rubbish in from the previous guest.This was sorted after the clean the next day. My wife pulled the bedside cabinet away from the wall to get to the socket and there was a lot of dust and an ear defender from a previous guest. We raised this with reception who said they passed it on to the manager. After the next clean the ear defender and dust were still there. For the price we paid …we expected better
