The Ffort Raichak

Booked ffort villa for 1 night at 22k, never expected - stinking smell, mosquito all over, washroom water non-functional, exhaust fan not working, keys for locked door missin, staff inexperienced, duty ***ager taking things lightly as money paid in advance. Only good thing was food. Repeated follow up to resolve with housekeeping staff.

We checked in at 11.30 pm and the process was smooth. The resort nestled on the bank of Hooghly river amidst all round solitude of a gated area in Raichak . We booked in a Double Delux room with river view. Let us now move to the review of facilities and my experience ( Rating have been assigned in a Scale of 1 to 5 , 5 being highest):- A. Location : Located in the wilderness , nestled on the bank of the river , 50 km from Kolkata. True the the name , the hotel is located at the site of the fort built by the British in 1783 as a residency of 65 British soldiers under com***der General Richard Watson, to keep a watch on the traffic on Hooghly river towards Calcutta. The fort was restored and converted into the hotel. The old British and French flavour is the real plus of the property. The gate, entrance to the property you over a wooden wooden bridge over a curated lily pool, all add to the theme. (Rating 4.5). B. Room :  The Superior River View room in the fifth floor that we booked was about 320 square feet with a veran*** facing the river. Room was elegantly furnished with matching fittings, has a large 70 inch bed with side tables on both sides, a wardrobe, a dressing and luggage storage area. Bed was rightly soft, comfy with linens . The room had wooden flooring and clean and have amenities like tea making facility. Adequate bottles of water are provided and tea pouches replaced every day. Toilet is big in size and with a bath tub. Toilet is fitted with sanitary fitings of acceptable quality and geyser. Toileteries like shampoo pouches and body lotion were provided. Quality of toileteries are not upto the standard of a 4 star property. Room is well lit with good central air conditioning with large window. Additional pillows and blankets are provided on request. But the room lacks maintenance and need immediate rennovation. The furniture looked dated, the toilet in particular is in poor shape. Sanitary fittings and plumbing looks horrolibly dated, towels are torn needing immediate replacement, bath tub looks passed its working life since ages. The toilet drainage gives a stink due to lack of cleaning. It appears the current operator must have lost interest in the property. After paying Rs. 9.5 k per night , this is what you least expect. (Rating 3.75 ) C. Facilities : The resort has all facilities that you require for a relaxed holiday amidst nature. There is a reception area , a hall leading to the restaurant, where used artifacts of Watson family and guns used by the regiment are nicely diaplayed. Outstanding view towards River Ganges (Hugli) , beatiful garden, good restaurant. Rooms are great, very good service , clean with large amount of space. Friendliness and service of housekeeping was an outstanding experience.

Undestaffed, Overpriced, overhyped and Mis***aged place. Not worthy of a 5 star hotel. Restaurant is Pathetic in terms of service. Not big enough to accommodate all the guests. You will get a long waiting list even though you have checked in. Food items will long time to refill, to the point that you will feel like not eating. Staff are not very friendly.

The Location, the room, the service, the food or the view, U name it and it is just WOW....... We stayed in the Presidential Suite in Raichak on Ganges, it was just perfect for us..... Everyone is extremely helpful and the view was just mesmerizing.... I would like to give a special mention for Mr Priyotosh from the restaurant who perfectly arranged our 3 year old son's food as per our requirement....

Excellent food! The breakfast buffet was one of the best I’ve had. The lunch buffet was lavish. The complimentary cake the hotel baked for my parents’ anniversary was delicious. Service in the restaurant was wonderful. The staff organized a candle light dinner. I think the person who was helping us out was called Sujeet or Sudeep. Deserves a special mention. The property is very nice but it was extremely hot when we went (not their fault!) so a bit difficult to really enjoy it. I wish the lobby were air conditioned too. One small suggestion I have is to serve the welcome drink in glasses and not paper cups. That was a bit tacky for such a fancy property. Definitely worth a drive down from Kolkata. The view from the room of the river beyond the gardens was lovely. Go for the food if nothing else.

I had a mixed feeling. Staff were courteous. Food was ok. But the hotel surely needs a refurbishment. Lift is scary with very dim light and most of the buttons needs to be repaired. The lift itself needs cleaning. I find cleanliness to be a major issue everywhere. The swimming pool needs to be cleaned. It gathered moss inside the pool walls. Once highlighted the games room incharge said that since there is a constant flow of tourists they are not getting time to clean the pool. The rooms need to be cleaned better.

The only plus about the hotel in that it has a nice lawn and greenery . The hotel is terribly maintained and rooms in shambles . The rooms need a complete spruce up and it’s not worth staying here at all . There are very frequent power cuts with the whole hotel being in the dark . The generator takes too long to start and even after it does the AC does not go on . The wifi in the hotel does not work and if you have a JIO connection then there is just no mobile data connectivity . The housekeeping needs to pay attention while getting the room set up for the next guest as even basics like lights not functioning are not checked .

I am still at the property while writing the review. The property is nice, a lot of space, nice for spending time with family. But that's basically it. The service is beyond poor! Not to blame the staff, they are polite and try their best. But they are seriously understaffed in kitchen and service. A cup of tea took 25 mins in the afternoon, a plate of French fries couldn't be delivered to room in 1 hour. When you are charging a premium such service is unacceptable.
