We wish to alert potential visitors about the business practice of Ocean Beach Apartments in Stokkseyri, Iceland. We had booked five nights in July 2022 through one of the a booking companies, with payment to me made on arrival. I had a confirmed reservation. However, when I phoned the hotel about check-in procedures I was told our reservation had been cancelled by the booking company due to an invalid credit card. I complained that I had not received any notice about this from either the booking company, the credit card company, or Ocean Beach Apartments itself. Also it was a bad situation for us with suddenly no accommodation in a fully booked area. However, the assistant just said goodbye and hung up. I immediately contacted customer service at thee booking company. They looked into it and confirmed they had NOT cancelled the reservation. This was a decision by Ocean Beach Apartments alone. So, not only did Ocean Beach Apartments unduly cancel our confirmed reservation without any notice, they also lied about the booking agency being responsible. Further I have no other indication that the credit card used should be invalid. In case, we had several other cards to use for pay on arrival, as agreed. It adds to our concern that Ocean Beach Apartments is an unmanned operation with no office, and not even an email address to communicate through. We have therefore not been able to contact Ocean Beach Apartments to enquire further about the incident. Bottom line is we wish to share that you risk having you travel disrupted if you rely on Ocean Beach Apartments, even with a confirmed reservation for payment on arrival.
