We stayed here for a 2 nights on a Distant Journey (DJ) tour of Japan. Arrived around 5pm by coach from Mt Fuji area. Check in was well organised but it was after 6pm before our luggage arrived in our room on 8th floor. We were meant to meet our TM and guide between 7 and 7.30 for advice on where to have dinner. Map in hand we turned right outside hotel and proceeded into town. Recommended restaurants were very difficult to find. Any we did find, including those not mentioned, were either fully reserved or full or, as time passed towards 8pm, were closing. We headed back to the hotel to find buffet option was £45 or set Japanese meal ¥8,300 (£53). Many of us went to a 711 across the road from hotel and bought ready meals, which they heated for us in microwave, beer or wine and we retreated to our rooms. The street lighting is poor so navigation from a map was difficult. Breakfast was like school dinners but passable. Bar closes at 7pm!!! If you are reading this and are on a JD tour get to town early to stand a chance of eating out. A group did find a restaurant very close by hotel before the bridge on opposite side of road to 711 but the name unrecognisable as in Japanese, photo attached.

A very good place and a good value but in need of updating and refurbishment. Liked · Great staff who could not do enough for you. The location is perfect. Food for dinner was delicious, but the service was very rushed and there were several miscommunications with the staff. breakfast was good but not great. Lots of amenities in the room. The lobby. The holiday decorations and the outside terrace were lovely. Super clean. The free coffee, tea, soft drinks, and raman in the lobby were a wonderful touch. Location is perfect and veiw from the room was wonderful. Disliked · Decor was very dated in the room and somewhat depressing. Toilet paper and towels were both terrible; they were cheap and awful. Such a shame for such a nice place to cut corners on a minor but important detail. Little or no storage in the room except for some hangers.

一人旅で北陸へ行く途中、飛騨高山市で一泊するため、こちらのホテルに初めて宿泊しました。高山駅の西側高台にある８階建てのホテル。セミダブルのベッドで腰掛けやすく寝心地がよかったです。自販機のジュースが一本サービスで飲めるのがうれしい。何と言っても気に入ったのが、天然温泉の内湯と半露天にもなる外湯。弱アルカリ性の温泉で体が温まります。シャンプー•リンスはそれぞれ４種類あるうちから選べるのもいい。夕食・朝食ともに充実しているのには驚きだ。特に、ブッフェ式の夕食は小鉢のメニューが多く、飛騨地方の野菜などをふんだんに使った料理が多い。オープンキッチンがあり、目の前でローストビーフや有頭焼きエビまでいただける。〆は飛騨牛すじカレーライス　少し甘めだが玉ねぎや牛すじがたっぷり入っている　スパイスをやたら利かしたルーではなく、飛騨牛の旨みが贅沢に味わえる逸品。何杯でもお代わりしたくなる味わいだ。また飛騨高山に来ることがあれば、このホテルに宿泊してみたい。

Very convenient, only 5 mins walk from the Takayama Train/bus station. The hotel serves complimentary hot ramen from 9pm to 10.30pm and free coffee at the lobby. The buffet breakfast is so fantastic,. I love the private onsen and the free ice-cream after the onsen. They also provide yukata which can be worn to the onsen and dining area. Footwears have to be removed and stored at the lobby. It's truly an experience and we enjoyed our stay at the hotel very much. Would highly recommend Takayama Ouan.

Was around the globe with my hub and only find time to write this now :P The resident monk Kaiji-san is very good in English and was able to provide clear and wonderful information about Buddhism, meditation and the temple. The temple rooms are very clean and puts you in a contemplative mood to relax in. The bathrooms are all clean and modern. There is plenty of space in the room and it is impossible to feel claustrophobic. You can also have time to yourself at the public section of the spacious main hall in the evenings to find ”inner peace” if you wish to be outside your room. There is also this verrry cute instagram worthy ”cafe-house” breakfast place that sells omelette and sandwiches just across the street from the front facade of the temple where you can dine in and stack the small town experience. The 10 mins walk from the train station to the temple is along the not-very-busy well-tarmacked main roads so lugging your suitcases is not a problem. The temple is a pleasant and safe 10 mins walk on the quaint and quiet neighbourhood street along a not too busy road to bring you to the old town in where you find coffee places, soba inns, quaint local produces and a lovely river with a morning market to spend time in. Just a stone throw behind the temple and housed within a petrol station is the 24hours 7-11 convenience store for what you need (or wish to buy) and for cute Japanese snacks to try. There is also a local hospital is nearby for emergencies. Excellent place to stay for a quiet rest at night and a lovely lively town to visit in the day! Highly recommend to stay here in Hida!

It is probably the most conveniently located hotel in Takayama, just right next to the Takayama JR train station and bus terminal. The room I stayed in has excellent view of the city, the train station and the surrounding mountains in the distance. As with most Japanese hotels, the room size is not large, but is comfortable enough for a couple or including a small child. There is even a washing machine and a microwave oven inside the room. The hotel staff are friendly and speak good English. Restaurant is on the 2nd floor, and there are also Onsen bath facilities. The restaurant does not serve lunch and dinner need reservation. There are restaurants near the old town area, which is about 10 to 15 minutes walking distance East of the hotel. The location of the hotel near to the JR station and bus terminal make it an excellent base station to explore the nearby tourist locations like Shirakawa and other places for day-trip visits. It is also easily accessible from Nagoya, which is just 2.5 hours away by local trains. Shirakawa-go is 50 minutes away by local bus from the bus terminal beside the train station. The Takayama park (South East of old town area) is definitely worth exploring especially during the autumn when the fall foliage is really spectacular.

We stayed at Hotel Associa Takayama Resort as part of our tour group. We had a spacious twin room on the 15th floor of the Alps Wing which was the largest room of our tour. The room was very comfortable as were the beds. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. There was tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The resort is on the outskirts of Takayama but there is a shuttle bus into the centre of the city. There are limited restaurants in the hotel and 2 of them were booked out by the time we arrived. We managed to book into the Japanese restaurant and had a delicious meal there. The breakfast buffet didn't have cereal. There was a laundromat on the ground floor which consisted of a number of combined washing machine/dryers which dispensed their own detergent.

Manager/Owner (Maybe?)/Front desk person/Driver is polite, friendly, and professional. He also speaks reasonable English. Free pick up and drop off services from/to the JR station are provided. Pick up service is available between 12:30 until 17:30 but you have to call from the station once arrived. Drop off is also available but only 3 times, in the morning, with the last one leaves the Ryokan at 10 AM. There is a local bus station stop, coffee shop, teddy museum, and a small village just a short walk from the place. Local bus stops services around 17:00 so be wary of that. Free WiFi is pretty good. Ryokan we got was traditional and spacious. There is a 24 hours, pay for, vending machine with cold drinks only in the main lobby for late night thirst. There is a 24 hours, free, cold water vending machine in the main lobby as well. There is an on-site auto rental available as well. Everything nearby closes around 17:00. There is no Uber service in this city. Only limited taxi service. I didn't see any taxi park or waiting outside either. You have to go downhill to the main road to catch any or walk to the main area of the city yourself. Going to the main area maybe easier because of the downhill but coming back will be way too harder because of a decent uphill! It does get pretty hot in summer and snowy in winter so watch out if you plan anything late. There is an on-site, pay for, laundry available as well which was not mentioned to us. Breakfast and dinner are provided for cost but you have to reserve at least a night before or as soon as you can. Everything is all meat and almost nothing for vegetarian. I asked some questions about the meal but was never responded. Owner was only interested if we want to get the meal or not. There is no room service available to order anything. Place is pricey! Ryokan is very basic and dated and nothing luxury. Our main issue was when we checked into our room, a strong urine smell goes right into our nose! Upon looking further, it turned out that it was coming from the bathroom. Toilet was dry but I guess somebody peed on the floor which is all wood and therefore smell seeped in those wood floors and it was stinky :( I complained to the manager and left the room. Coming back I was told everything was all cleaned. Unfortunately, even though smell was not as strong it was still there :( Good thing we only stayed for 1 night otherwise I would have to request room change. But the guest should not have to go through this specially after paying such a high price. Room should be thoroughly cleaned and checked for each and every new guest prior to their arrival. All basic amenities are provided in the room except the microwave! Microwave should be provided in each and every room or at least on each and every floor. It turned out that there was only 1 microwave available for the guest, near the main lobby, but it was never mentioned to us. Free pick up and drop off services are provided but within certain times.

I stayed at a traditional ryokan in Takayama several years ago and that was hard to top. This time, my husband and I decided to find a different property to stay in and Machiya gave us such a wonderful experience. We stayed in the Deluxe Loft room; it was spacious enough for a family of 3 adults and one young kid. The quality of the room was good and expected, but it's the friendly and helpful attitude of the staff that is highly commendable. Whenever we have questions about F&B, attractions, or even needed help with the delivery of our Rakuten order, the staff was ever so accommodating and helpful. Even my 5yo kid could feel the friendliness of the staff that he drew them a TQ card before we checked out. 10/10 recommend!
