This hotel provided great service and clean accommodations. I love that hotels in Japan provide pajamas and toothbrushes. This hotel had two public baths. It's nice that they have one bath where the water is not as hot. We had the dinner buffet. It included American and chinese offerings. You receive a ticket for one serving of the Hida beef. I thought the food was good. I like that the portions are small, so you can try a lot of things. We also had the breakfast buffet which included Takayama specialty items too. There is a large souvenir shop in the hotel, so you are able to pick up gifts. I thought the prices are comparable to other gift shops. The hotel offers a free shuttle to the train station. It is a 7 minute walk to the train station, so it's not so bad. They only have two shuttles that go to Takayama Jinya (government house) which is across the bridge from Sanmachi Suji. Otherwise it's at least a 20-25 minute walk. I wish they had more shuttles to that area. There is not much to look at on the way from the hotel to Sanmachi. As Takayama becomes more popular with tourists, most of the hotel staff and store owners are able to communicate in English. Overall, I enjoyed my time at the hotel and would stay there again.

Super cozy hotel with a really comfy Japanese style room. I liked that I had a nice view of the city in the mountains. Staff was nice enough. Great amenities. Enjoyed the in-house onsen with indoor and outdoor tubs and a cold plunge. I
The only negative I experienced was after a late night bath for about an hour was the sink and make up area floor was full of hair. . Long, dark hair from the blow drying was all over the floor. No one had checked the facility in the hour plus that I was there. to clean it in the hour that I was there.

We were lucky to stay at Mercure Takayami on their opening night. Everything about the hotel was above our expectations. Rooms were a very comfortable with attention to detail. Having USB and USB C charging ports for our electronics next to the bed was very convenient and meant we didn't need to search for our Japan power adaptors. This hotel has been well designed with a focus on local traditional carpentry and joinery skills. When you book this hotel make sure you book a room that includes access to the private Onsen. We had an open-air experience while we watched the snow from our private onsen. Breakfast had an extensive range of Tradition Hida dishes and Western choices, with different options available each day. This was a great way to try Hida Beef Curry and Hida chicken cooked on a traditional grill. Staff were very helpful going above and beyond with their dedicated and personal service, even searching the internet for me to find a store that sold Yama Cola. We will be back to stay again and will try to stay longer next time.

The best hotel I stayed in my trip! Location is perfect, 3-5mins walk to jr, bus terminal, and the resto味藏天國.
The design is grand and classy, heat is sufficient. The outdoor onsen is not big but very very comfy.
Room is large, clean and comfy, the best thing is about the washing machine and microwave! Never seen any in the hotels I stayed. Got netflix and youtube on TV. Great great value.
I would definitely come back and stay in this hotel again!!

Extremely well located if you want to be right next to the train station and bus station - my room overlooked the tracks. Provision of washing machine and dryer is a superb bonus inroom as are the full cooking facilities. The hotel intelligently provides basics such as oil, salt, coffee, tea and even a couple of detergent sachets for the washing. Strangelt though, no knives or other cutting implements of any kind. A tip if you intent to cook. The Family Mart opposite is basic, but there is a huge supermarket under the tracks and just beyond MacDonalds where you can get international food as well as Japanese. Slightly dreary corridors and a reception crowded with people waiting for their room to become available. But on the plus side they let me into my room early as I was unwell at the time.

The hotel is only 1 block across the JR station with many restaurants around the area, less than 10 minutes leisure walk to the historic area. Room is very well maintained and spacious, with comfortable beddings, strong showers. The hotel is very responsive with my emails and questions, I feel that they are really trying their best to accomodate my request with occupant change that we really appreciate. Breakfast is adequate with a good selection of hot dishes, Japanese and continental. Overall a great hotel in Takayama

Walking distance to train or bus station. Helpful staff, doesn't always speak English but uses a translation app. Great check-in, neat spacious comfortable rooms [402], with bottles of water offered. It's my fault for not upgrading to a superior room because the standard rooms are very small. That said, it was well designed and used every available bit of space. The small double bed was pushed against the wall so not ideal for 2 people. Luckily the corridor/space beside the bathroom was quite wide so I was just able to open my large suitcase. There was a nice light duvet on the bed and hard/seed pillows. The bathroom was compact but allowed for a deepish bath. The air conditioning was powerful. There was a TV but there were no English tv channels. There was a small armchair to sit in and a table, a desk/dressing table, a stool and various ledges to put stuff on. There was no in room safe. The breakfast was ok. Self service with cereal and rolls as well as a lot of Japanese choices. My room was on the ground floor and there was parking outside. The hotel provided a shuttle to get to the town centre which was convenient but allow enough time to find the bus stop for the return. I very nearly missed it because I couldn't make sense of the map provided (you had to go inside the train station and up and over the railway tracks to get to the right bus stop!). It was perfectly adequate for one night but if I was to return I'd chose a hotel in the centre of town so that restaurants and shopping/sightseeing is easier to get to.

LLuomsYuu 游 is an amazing ryokan. We (family of 4) had a very nice two nights' stay there. The Japanese style breakfast (you can choose western or Japanese, but obviously Japanese style is the winner) & dinner included in the package is simply amazing! And be sure to try Takayama Sake too. It goes so well with Hida beef:) just can't get enough.
To get there from Takayama JR station (bus station there too), be sure to board the bus that goes to ipposui. We didn't rent a car because we are not used to driving in snowy weather. But everyone working in Yuu is super friendly, even drives us for a short trip out...
And of course, the onsen is amazing too! Unfortunately stay there!

JJohnWe tried to book this lesser known hotel in the area and guess what, we were glad we did got the opportunity to stay in this lovely hotel. The staff was kind and sincere even though they tried their best to speak converse with us in english. The room we stayed in was those like ryokan kind with a toilet in it. Shower area are shared among other guests which is linked to a shared indoor and outdoor onsen areas as well. They have a private onsen as well which you do not need to book, just need to lock the door outside to inform people that you're using it.
The best part of this experience is that we opted for dinner and breakfast and we were just blown away especially the dinner course menu. They provided like 10 different type of dishes for you to taste which includes the iconic hida beef as well!
Everything for one night is so affordable around SGD $200+ which is definitely worth it!

Our family of 4 loved our stay here during April 2024. The owners are very welcoming into their home and they go to a lot of effort to make our stay happy and comfortable.
A traditional Japanese Breakfast meal is provided. The food is delicious and plentiful.
Sleeping is Japanese style on tatami mats and comfortable futon mattresses. The rooms and beds are warm and cosy, even when it is cold outside.
The bathrooms are clean and modern, and the hot bath was a very welcome relief from the days of walking.
The location is very convenient with a 1 minute walk to the Miyagawa morning markets and other interesting locations. The house is an easy 15 minute walk to Takayama station.
Highly recommend. We loved our stay here!

LLeon FokThe apartment is conveniently located near the train station, which provides easy access to public transportation. While the surrounding neighborhood is pleasantly quiet, it is still very convenient, with restaurants and other amenities within walking distance. The spacious balcony offers lovely views and is a wonderful feature, allowing you to enjoy the fresh air and scenery. Overall, this is an excellent value and I would highly recommend it based on the location, amenities, and beautiful balcony view.

PPengguna TetamuHodakaso Yamano Hotel Old and well maintained hotel tucked in the mountains. Exudes an old world charm where you forget the hustle and bustle of urban life. Welcoming service upon arrival where the concierge comes running to unload your luggages. The room was basically comfortable with no frills. The attraction of this hotel was in the many pockets of activity to enthuse with. There was a cosy foot bath tucked in one corner on your way to the elevator. The highlight was a lovely all natural outdoor onsen 5 min walk from the hotel - owned by the hotel - opens from 5 am to 11 pm. The only access to the outdoor onsen was to take a 1-min slope lift down the steep slope. They were changing rooms but no bathing facilities at this outdoor onsen. The experience here was truly magical, soaking in the Hotspring, surrounded by natural forest and mountains, while watching the sunset. The onsen bath within the hotel was small and simple. The food served for dinner was acceptable. Breakfast was decent too. On the whole, the experience was quite magical.

PPengguna TetamuThe hotel is just opposite the JR station and bus station, extremely convenient! They provide free umbrellas, free flow amenities (toothbrush, comb, coffee, tea, sugar, etc) at the lobby based on trust, in room slippers, pajamas but too big for me, in room bathtub with shampoo, moisturizer and shower gel, hand foam soap, towels. The carpets are a little old and while trying to find something that I had dropped, saw that it’s not totally clean beneath the bed. Nevertheless, the main areas are clean. The hotel has a microwave in the lobby, two massage chairs, two washing machine with dryer capabilities, public bath and restaurant for breakfast. For this price, it’s really good value for money!

DDaniela888Amazing onsen hotel. We really loved our stay here. Located just a short bus ride away from Hirayu Onsen Town, the village is even more beautiful and serene.
The food for dinner and breakfast was fresh, varied and super tasty. The room was clean, spacious and very comfortable. The common areas were super inviting and the staff very friendly and helpful.
It was super easy to use the private onsen. No reservation needed - first come first served - and there was 4 of them so you would not need to wait long to get an opportunity to use it. The hot baths both inside and outside were the perfect temperature and quite scenic in the middle of the trees.
Would love to go again in the future.

PPengguna Tetamu宿のパンフレットにある言葉、「はるか、遠い昔にであったような」。そんな時間が流れているお宿です。「鄙の湯」の鄙は鄙びたのひなです。 部屋は広く12畳位でベッドやテーブル椅子セットがありました。また広縁と部屋を囲む縁側がありました。 またトイレには男性用の立ちトイレもあり、宿に男性用トイレがあるのは珍しいよねと話しました。後から聞くと、この部屋のみ男子用かあるとの事です。 冷房を切っても外からいい風が入ってきて、ヒグラシが鳴いているのが聞こえ、風呂上がりには二人とも昼寝してしまいました。 温泉はほんのりと硫黄の匂いがしました。内湯が熱湯で、露天風呂がぬる湯で、今の暑い時期、とても快適でした。源泉かけ流しの良い温泉です。 お風呂には化粧水などは置いて無いので、お部屋に用意してもらっているアメニティセットをお持ちになった方が良いです。 お風呂の近くに休憩処があります。冷たいお茶を飲んでいると網戸越しに外から涼しい風が入ってきて「夕涼みだなぁ。」と以前の夏が懐かしくなりました。今はどこも暑すぎです。夏の高原宿は涼しくていいですね。 お休み処では、穂高や槍ヶ岳などのビデオをテレビで流しており、ゆったり冷たい物を飲みながら、見ました。 夕食ですが、違う部屋の個室に用意してくれました。 ひな盛りは色どり鮮やかでいろんな種類の夏の旬の野菜が沢山の前菜でした。お造りは岩魚と地元サーモン、焼き物は鮎の姿焼き、陶板焼きの一口ステーキは飛騨牛でした。ご飯はそのまま食べるわっぱ飯とユニークでした。地酒は地酒一合が660円で、お料理に良く合いました。 朝食も個室にていたたんきました。フグの一夜干しやお豆腐が美味しく、焼いた朴葉みそでご飯をおかわりしてしまいました。 食後はフロントエリアのラウンジで、コーヒーをいただきました。コーヒーカップはカップウォーマーに入っており、熱々のコーヒーが好きな私には、気遣いを感じました。特に冬などはせっかくのコーヒーサービスもカップが冷たくなっててコーヒーもぬるくなってしまうからです。 ラウンジでは、心地良いクラッシック音楽がかかっていてリラックスしました。 精算時がキャッシュオンリーな事だけか、キャッシュレス派なので、残念な点です。 もの静かな女将とご主人様が宿のコンセプトをしっかり持っておられると感じられました。14時イン11時アウトでいい温泉に4回も入り、本当にくつろげた滞在となりました。

DDuboisTristanThis place was absolute amazing! By far our favorite place from our whole trip. The location was absolutely perfect for the Takyama festival. We were literally right there with shops and street vendors 50 yards away and the parades would have been right there as well if they weren't canceled due to rain. The rooms were humble and traditional and really added to the experience. The tea in the room was exceptionally good and the traditional Japanese breakfast they served was also delicious and fun to eat. We didn't even know they had a legitimate hot spring on site, but they did! They are Japanese style baths so be ready for that, but the water was therapeutic and so relaxing. I cant recommend this place enough and I would absolute make it a point to visit Takyama and stay here again for a few days on our next trip to Japan. They were such great kind hosts. And I cant believe the price, what an great value. Do yourself a favor and stay here. I'm not sure why the other bad reviews are here I read some of them and they sound like entitled stupid American tourists so ignore them and stay here.
