El Minzah Hotel

Sorry to say that we do not believe the hotel is up to its 5 star standard. It is a good hotel and the hotel does take care to look after it and make it enjoyable for people staying but if you are expecting 5 star quality it will let you down. In the room, inside the kettle, the coffee cup and the spoon were dirty (these hadn’t had a clean before us arriving), there was an awful sewage smell coming from the drain in the shower so bad that if we didn’t shut the bathroom door ah all times our room smelt revolting (this was room 336) I don’t know if it’s a general thing or just unlucky with the room. It felt like at times staff would favour people who have stayed at the hotel before (regulars) or people who had been staying there for a few days rather than welcoming new people. Finally, to top off our stay here, 5am we needed to leave for the airport, we asked the reception if he would kindly just call us a taxi, he told us this would be a charge of 250 DHR (we already knew this should have been no more than 150), we said no thank you walked into the street and got a taxi for 100 DHR. Very bad

I would always recommend anyone to stay at this hotel because of its perfect location, it’s glamorous history, the marvellous space and one of the great swimming pools of the world - I know because I’ve sampled a lot of them. Yes the service can be less than swift but the staff are always pleasant and helpful and you feel like family when you stay

This is a lovely hotel in Tangier. The location was perfect for walking around the city, and the room was beautiful. We enjoyed both dinner and breakfast at the hotel and regretted being able to stay only one night. There is a cute gift shop and the grounds are wonderful. Unfortunately I fell on a hole in the sidewalk and had to go to the hospital - be careful on those sidewalks! - but the hotel could not have been more helpful in getting me ice and checking on me afterwards, although the fall had nothing to do with them. Also, they will change your currency at the front desk. I highly recommend this hotel.

We spent 1 night here before taking the ferry to Spain. The hotel was quaint, with a nice terrace and restaurant area. We stayed in a twin room, with a nice big bathroom. We took a walk in the evening after dinner, great views from behind the hotel over the sea.

Very happy with our stay. The ladies in charge of housekeeping on floor 2 were lovely and made us feel most welcome. Great location, big room with balcony overlooking the pool with a sea view (room 241) and attentive friendly service at breakfast. Pleased to recommend without hesitation .

Good. BUT could be much better Facilities are great Cleanliness good Breakfast choice very good, but go early as later on it’s been out too long and items are drying out and curling at the corners Service sometimes excellent ( bar team very good), sometimes indifferent. Didn’t have evening meal so cannot comment. Very poor experience with hotel concierge. Ordered taxi to Ceuta and told it would be two hours because they were providing a ‘special car’, at a special price. 800 instead of normal taxi MAD 500. Turned out it was the concierge relative driving one of a thousand similar taxis. Why make your guest wait 2 hours to line your family pocket? I know it’s Morocco, but it’s a 5 star hotel supposed to be providing 5 star service. I don’t expect to have to be on my guard for being scammed in a hotel like this, it is what you expect if your flagging down a taxi, which we did on another occasion, and received better service from. The last experience from a hotel is your overriding memory, you spoilt ours with a street scam. Otherwise I’d have given 5 star rating.

The positives.. fabulously clean room, incredibly attentive and helpful staff from housekeeping, through reception, bar etc... Honestly cannot praise the service and attaention in the hotel itself enough. Lovely room with comfy bed and pillows, but the devil is in the detail, dated overall and in need of update, lovely batroom toiletries but poor shower certainly not 5 star standard, nice large towels but again a bit old.. dripping toilet, broken bathroom door so only shut with door lock applied, rusted balcony furniture. 90 % of channels listed as provided unavailable on the TV. The spa is poor overall.. the indoor pool is grubby.. tiles grubby, discarded broken goggles around and generally came across as needing attention. Therapists were all friendly and lovely but spa reception staff were quite disinterested , unattentive and unhelpful, constantly on mobile phones, ringing to get an appointment was a chore and told services unavailable even though seemed very quiet and was not in high season. The hotel restaurant El Korsan, fabulous food but experience ruined by being rushed to finish, we arrived an hour before advertised closing, but as mains were served were told must order dessert or anything else we wanted immediately as they were closing, which left us rushing our meal to get out the way. All in all a mixture of good and bad that left us feeling a little disappointed overall.
