The experience of staying at Grand Hotel Timeo in Taormina is extraordinarily nice! Splendid view of volcano Etna from our room, wonderful natural surroundings, excellent hospital staff and services, tasty Sicilian food and wines, luxury hotel rooms and spa, comfortable beds and pillows etc. Whoa, there are too many, they are all so kind and friendly, I will list all of their names below: Enzo (great sense of humor and welcomed us upon arrival); Orlando (sing like Pavarotti and entertainment master); Daniel (shy but work like pro); Antonio (artist name Tony Zano who raps and released 3 albums with 22 tracks, true master); Gisappi (Bartender with glasses, also a great teacher of making cocktails); Kristina (very kind and friendly with lovely smiles); David (humble waiter at restaurant, from Tuscany); Valentina (Wonderful Chinese speaking and sweet); Ricardo, Roberto (always smiling and helpful with carrying stuff); Margarita (amazing events planner and great photographer); Luca, Giovanni (excellent shuttle driver who loves cars); Matia (doorman who appreciates piano and music). Some others I couldn’t call their names, but I will always remember their lovely smiles and kind hospitality! Again, special thanks to all of them who made our stay experience unforgettable and incredible! Thanks! :)

Perfect location. Great view from public area. Great breakfast. Free parking. Affordable price. Don’t know what to complain.

The hotel is in an amazing position with fabulous views across to Etna and the Bay of Naxos. It is also in a great position for the centre of Taormina. It would be fair to describe the hotel as the ”grande dame” of Taormina due to its age. While the very traditional decor is appealing, there are a couple of areas which could be improved. As mentioned elsewhere, the lack of sufficient power outlets in the rooms is a big issue nowadays. Also while the bathroom is very modern, the design is poor with water running onto the floor and also having to clamber around the bidet made showing a challenge. However, the cleanliness couldn't be faulted and daily cleaning was excellent, with very friendly housekeeping staff. There are a lot of stairs in the hotel and there only seems to be a lift in one part of the building, which means the less mobile will still have to negotiate some stairs. The breakfast room is very busy with a wide range of options available. The pastries were spectacular. A couple of the staff seemed a bit miserable, but otherwise everyone was pleasant, especially Angelo who was a bit of a comedian and always made us smile. The only real negative about breakfast is that most of the coffee comes out of a machine and is not the best. Unforgivable in Italy! Luckily I was able to ask for a properly made coffee. The pool area is lovely and very peaceful, taking advantage of great views. It is a hike to and from the pool due to the clifftop location and the need for steps. We tended to spend the whole day by the pool, so only had to use the steps when travelling there and back. The team down by the pool were also pleasant. In fact Angelo was often working at the pool bar and always made us welcome as did his colleague Marius. The food from the pool bar was good quality, if not a bit idiosyncratic. The same dish was rarely presented in the same way, which was amusing. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would happily stay again.

From exceptional amuse bouche to amuse bouche to an forgettable bread course with a whipped sweet cream hand turned butter, through each chapter of our selected menu of Sicilian flavors including a delicate crisped zucchini pasta to the perfect bite of Al Dente lasagna of ragu to a trio of perfectly seasoned and delicately grilled meats to a fantastical finish of miniature Italian desserts all beautifully plated and intellectually stimulating of the senses; topping a special evening of lovingly prepared food and beautifully presented and paced service. We very highly recommend the Batu and San Pietro, five stars all the way and without the tired forced pretentiousness so common now, from the moment we stepped out of our car thru every experience from breakfast to pool to coordinated excursions. We (couple) stayed at this hotel for one week in September. I regretted this as our choice for accommodation as the quality was so poor. I had booked it purely based on the location but after having been to Taormina there are many places off the main street which are just as well located. The town is small and very walkable even if you are not on the main street. In fact, we regretted being on the main street as we were woken up at 5/6am every morning the crash of bottles being collected by trucks outside. The first issue we had when we arrived was that the hotel had no irons. Everything we had packed needed to be ironed after being in our cases. In my opinion having an iron in the room/hotel is an absolute basic and must. The reception said that they could not provide this due to 'security'. This sounded unusual but when I googled; a hotel which is not up to fire safety standards is not allowed to provide irons/kettles in the rooms, so I guess this is the case here. Another weak point is the breakfast offering. There was very little selection and the bread was not fresh. The first few mornings there was a lovely lady serving breakfast but the next few days there was a man who just seemed annoyed with everyone, we found him to be rude and after this we decided to avoid the breakfast altogether. It was much better to get a coffee and patisserie outside. The rooms in general are in need of an upgrade, you can feel that the owner of this hotel does not care about the product but still charges high prices. We had curtains falling down and mold and rust in the bathroom. Despite being totally let down by the quality of the hotel there was a lovely gentleman called Carmelo who worked nights on reception. He greeted us every night and we had some nice chats with him. To sum up, I work in the hotel industry myself and would absolutely not write a bad review if I didn't feel it was warranted. Unfortunately I would not recommend this hotel and most definitely will not be back there myself. Its a real shame to the owners/management.

A great location with good views of the bay. Just a short walk from the entrances to the old town and right above the bus station, which is really useful For local transport and also the airport. The hotel’s staff were brilliant. They could not do enough for us at the front desk and made all the difference. The breakfast has plenty to choose from and the dining room has great views. We sis not have dinner at the hotel, but the restaurant/ bar has a Happy Hour and was a great place for an early evening drink. The rooms are spacious, clean and we had a great view. It is worth paying a little extra for the balcony with a view.

We loved the location of the hotel. We stayed 4 days and used it as our home as we e plowed the area. We did a city tour, a day of sailing and wine tasting at Barone di Villa Grande. It was raining one day so did not take in Mt Etnea. I definitely have to give a shout out to the concierge Sarah. She is FANTASTIC. She provided a wealth of information and booked events. It was my husbands birthday and she arranged a great surprise for him. the hotel is beautiful and the staff are friendly; however, she made our experience over the top.
