The Distinction Luxmore in Te Anau is in a great location. It's within easy traveling distance by foot of the Marina, the local supermarkets and the restaurants within the town centre.
The hotel itself is a bit dated in appearance, (exterior and interior) and looks as if it could do with a bit of a refurb both on the outside and the rooms themselves.
But Having said that the room we stayed in was clean and a good size.
With a small but very efficient fridge it certainly provided more value than a number of other hotels we've stayed at.
If there were a couple of minor quibbles it would be these.
We booked in to stay two nights and they provided us with the smallest bottle of shower gel I've ever seen.
A notice said something about recycling and reducing waste, but other hotels I've stayed at have managed to get by, using bigger shower gel, shampoo and conditioner bottles in the bathrooms, which they just simply top up.
I know that some people sometimes take items like soap and other toiletries, but would it really have been that much more expensive to provide at least two of these super small bottles of body wash/shower gel for two guests?
I finished the bottle taking one shower and we were then forced to use the small bar of soap that they provided for the wash hand basin for our showers over the next two days.
The other small moan was about checking in. We arrived from our previous hotel at 12:30 pm. When we asked if it was possible to check in early the receptionist said that we would have to come back after 2pm. Now I get that this is the check in time.
But it would have been nice if she had checked to see if the room had been done, and was available for us to check into.
Another step after that could have been to check with the house keeping team if they could schedule our room to be done next, and said that we could pop back and check in half an hour if it was done.
She could also have offered us a bag drop off until we were due to check in at 2pm. Instead none of those things happened, and on a fairly cold day we were forced to wait in our car for over an hour, before we then decided to kill the rest of our time by taking a boat trip.
Just a small thing that could possibly be done better for future guests.
