There are a few important things to note if you want to stay at Eterna (as we would not suggest staying here): Location: the hotel is located close to the Centro ***** if that is where you want to be located. However after we got to Tulum we realised that the beach, popular Tulum restaurants, popular cenotes and nightlife are ~20 minutes from the hotel. A taxi one way to these locations is approximately 900 pesos, so if you stay at Eterna you will need a car or scooter to get around, which is what the check-in staff member suggested upon our arrival. This was a shock to us and other guests who did not know how expensive taxis were in Tulum (especially since 20 minutes does not seem that far anywhere else in Mexico). The hotel is located on a side street with a very rough driveway, so you will need to take care when driving through here. The hotel itself is located right next to a landfill (more detail on this in the breakfast section below). Our stay: we recommend you confirm your room with the staff prior to your stay. We were on our honeymoon and the check-in staff allocated us in a worse room than the one we booked, even though it was booked 6 months+ in advance of our stay. This took a lot of back and forth before they actually gave us the room we booked / paid for. Even though we paid a daily cleaning fee, our room was not cleaned once during our stay and we had to beg for fresh towels and toilet paper 4 times until we were walked to the facility cupboard to get them ourselves. We did not mind the beds / room not being made but constantly asking for fresh towels / toilet paper became a bit ridiculous when multiple front desk staff were sitting on their phones. Breakfast: the breakfast is located across the road at a local cafe. Fruit is supposed to be available from 8am and full breakfast from 9am. We were advised by WhatsApp message the day we checked in that breakfast service is slow as it is local cuisine, which we we did not mind. However, the fruit option is a box of largely half rotten bananas and apples, and the chef will come make you whatever he feels like eating at whichever time he decides to come in the morning, which for us was around 10.30 am. The chef made 3 vegetarian tacos for breakfast, and that was all that was included in the breakfast fee paid to the hotel with no options for any other breakfast items. To top it off, the cafe is literally located next to a landfill where you will smell garbage all morning and listen to the worker there loudly crush garbage while you are eating breakfast. One positive point is that the rooms look like their photos and are aesthetically pleasing, spacious and modern. This is the only positive point of Eterna. All in all, there are similar hotels that are located on the beach for the same price. I do not see how this hotel considers itself to be a 4 star hotel. Save your money and hassle of organising last minute car / scooter rental, save any stress you will suffer from booking h
