Trump Turnberry

Three weeks ago we stayed at Trump Turnberry. It was our first visit, and in all honesty, we didn’t know a whole lot about the hotel prior to booking, nor did I read any reviews, but if you’re looking for information on a recent stay, then perhaps our experiences may help you in your research. We had booked a villa for our one night stay. Upon check in, we were told that we’d been upgraded to stay in the main building, which was a most pleasant surprise. Check in was quick, and efficient. Our luggage was taken, and the car parked by the valet team. We walked up to our room, and the first thing that struck me, was the level of finish on the materials around the building. You would not know that there was any age to the fabric of the hotel, as everything appeared to be brand new. I come from a construction background, and I’ve seen old hotels that have been refurbished, and Trump Turnberry is really next level in terms of the work, and materials that I’ve been used. Arriving at our room, we were really pleased; it was spacious, and well equipped with tasteful furniture, and furnishings. There was a mini bar with reasonable prices, a coffee maker with sufficient pods, milk, and even creamer. Which is something that you’d usually only see across in the US. We’re British, but we do spend a fair amount of time in the US, and it was really nice to see the imported US fittings in the bathroom. It was literally like stepping into a US hotel bathroom. From the shower, to the twin basins, to the bath, it was all US brands. The bathroom was again a US sized room, and if you’re travelling from the US then you’re really going to feel like you’re home from home. Most of the bedroom furniture was American made, along with US style lamps with twist turn switches. Everything in the room had a quality feel about it. We had a nice view, and could see the sea, and hills across in the distance.r Soon after we arrived, the chap arrived with our luggage, and set it up on the stand for us. Every member of staff we encountered during our stay were friendly, and helpful, and made us feel very welcome. We decided to have an evening meal in the hotel. Prices in the 1906 main restaurant looked a little beyond our budget, so we opted to walk down to the Turnberry Clubhouse, and eat in the Duel in the Sun restaurant. We were not disappointed. It was a relaxed, casual affair, but the food was excellent, and it suited us perfectly. We both had steak, and it was done to perfection, with a very large portion of food overall. Prices were reasonable, service attentive, and friendly, with a good view out over the golf course. The hotel does provide a shuttle service to, and from the Clubhouse, but we enjoyed our walk, as the weather was being very kind to us, even though we stayed in February. Just back from the most relaxing overnight stay with my friend,what a first time experience,superb Joshua at front desk made us sooo welcome as did every member of staff,will be back,beautiful hotel in every way,would highly recommendxx

Outstanding from start to finish. Came here for our business work night out. Room in hotel overlooking the golf course was stunning. Bathroom was unreal. Bath was huge! Ate in the grand ballroom which was spectacular. Breakfast in morning was exquisite. Staff at front door very welcoming and helpful. So refreshing to see local Scottish men working there & welcoming guests / concierge. Most staff seemed local which was lovely to see as they are knowledgeable. Shuttle taxi took us over to the club house which was fab. Spa isn’t overly impressive but enjoyed it all the same, can’t wait to come back!!

Recent visit for special birthday arrived to poor welcome unfortunately large wedding at the hotel and we felt uncomfortable as we were brushed aside had to wait two hrs for room , my daughter had paid extra for upgraded room that was lovely but no mention from staff that she had done this and no card from her with nice note , The room was nice but carpets had hole in middle of room 😱 I pressed the room light on and it was unfortunately faulty later on at 2am-3am-4am “”””””” it kept coming on keeping both myself and wife awake all night the room was nice but nightmare, The following morning we woke up for breakfast and l wanted to use the large bath but it all went wrong as the water was cold 🥶🥶🥶🥶 Eventually went for breakfast in a nice setup but it all went wrong when l ordered Turnberry fry and it was overcooked and cold l eat half but my wife returned hers uneaten 🤢🤮 l all ways say happy wife happy life she was miserable all day and so disappointed, I am a great Trump supporter but this was a great let down l know that Donald J Trump has high standards but he let us down with the disappointments we experienced we expect better 😢😢

Firstly it pains me to leave this review as I greatly admire the owner of this hotel but I don’t think he knows how it’s run. Mr trump is a remarkable man this hotel is not. It’s greatly overpriced for a mediocre hotel we booked a room through the vio site £620 for a deluxe room we arrived and were given our room I must point out the valet was a lovely chap very accommodating did not get he’s name. We checked in all good given room number they said our bag would follow. We went in to room it was small and well used with a view of another building ten feet away and as we sat waiting for luggage which never arrived we noticed that the complimentary fruit was rotten looked two weeks old and room was rough so we went down after 30-40 minutes to complain still no luggage. They said the fruit left on side was disgusting and apologised and bumped our room up to a balcony room which should cost £1100 believe me not worth it but we tried to enjoy. I’ve stopped in other hotels with much better rooms for circa £300 but were there now got washed went down stairs booked food in the restaurant 1904 for 7.30 pm so while we were waiting we ordered two drinks at bar vodka lemonade and a house wine cheap wine cost £39 pounds for these then into restaurant I have never had worse over priced food I’m my life we sent one dish back uneaten still tried to charge us for it rubber off scallops when your next to the sea unbelievable then a starter one voul a vont cheap freezer type £24 it’s a joke but we went up and retired ensured breakfast would be good omg what can I say it was unbelievable bad cheap over cooked eggs I can not express what a bad breakfast this was on the hole I’ve stopped in better Hilton’s bad service bad food mediocre overpriced rooms unfortunately I would never stop there again a sleep in would be better

I’ve been to Turnberry Hotel half a dozen times over the years and Trump Turnberry ( as it now insists ) just the once and probably WILL be back again . The staff are on the whole young and very good and very enthusiastic . February isn’t the best time to review a hotel as main restaurant was being refurbished and hotel was quiet - Ailsa Championship closed too for upgrade but looked utterly stunning and to be fair as does the hotel on arrival . We go to Gleneagles regularly and from what we observed Trump Turnberry has a long way to go to compete properly - the decor is on the who dark wood , swirly carpets , gold taps and a bit old fashioned despite being VERY well maintained . The staff as mentioned really are very good . We’d a lovely afternoon tea with a bottle of champagne for 3 and Els was in charge and frankly .. superb . The decor could just be more stylish & comfortable and is just a bit too ‘ corporate ‘ for our tastes . A TV above the bar - really annoying and on for no reason . The main restaurant was closed and where we were lacked atmosphere but the food was pretty good . Breakfast was in same room and pretty good too but nothing on a par with eg Strathearn at Gleneagles and clientele .. mixed . Grant and Mason seemed to be in charge each night in the restaurant and were VERY good . Dwayne the sommelier was most entertaining and helpful too . Mia and Miaha ( not related ) at Reception were very good and ALL of the staff smiled attentively and said hello as we walked past them - rare nowadays . Concierge also very good . Our room and bathroom were large and beautifully clean with a view to die for and the housekeeping staff a delight . As I say , the furniture and eg gold taps etc just a tad dated . There are people who look for fault - that’s not our style and it is February and Scotland but eg we saw no GM in attendance either night . The golf courses and Lighthouse all look in exemplary condition and if Trump Org just take a look at Gleneagles or eg Firmdale decor ( get rid of dark woods , cream walls and gold taps) then what was a Vg stay could be exceptional .
