A fireworks display takes place every year on the same date throughout France in almost all towns in France and it does not seem essential to us to specify this to all our customers, which is why we have not contacted you at move forward for this. The particularity of our city is that during the sound and light fireworks which lasts around 20 minutes there is ultimately a conflagration of the old city of which we are a part. In other words, all the lights in the city, including those in the Hotel, must be turned off and all the windows must be closed in order to allow the fireworks to take place smoothly but also to avoid that fumes enter the rooms and trigger alarms. We inform all our customers upon their arrival of this event and its slight constraints, which we did with you upon your arrival and not at 7:45 p.m. as you indicated to us. For your information, we are in our 10th summer and therefore 10th fireworks display and we have never had any comments on this subject as you will be able to see if you go back a little on the comments. You had the option of staying in your room during the fire while turning off the lights for 20 minutes and closing your windows, which you did in fact. As you did not tell us anything, reception contacted you for this. With no response from you, we had to knock on your room. It would have been much simpler to tell us that you wanted to stay in your room from the start, this would have avoided misunderstandings. It is true that we should contact our UK customers about this event to remind them that it is a national holiday, that there will be fireworks and noise as well as music, because after verification, citizens of the United Kingdom do not know what a national holiday is because it is the only European country that does not have a national holiday... However, it seems, as you tell us, that the rooms were comfortable, the hotel pleasant and the breakfast was good and that your rating of 1 out of 5 was surely linked to your eagerness to send us this negative comment rather than to a step back from this misunderstanding. We are sure that next year if you pass through France you will be vigilant as July 14 approaches to avoid all towns and villages because there will always be noise and light... Sincerely
