The original Philae Temple was dismantled and rebuilt.

In 1902, the Aswan Low Dam intercepted the Nile River, partially submerging the temple. After the High Dam was built south of Philae Island in the 1960s, the temple was almost completely submerged. To protect these precious cultural relics from damage, the Egyptian government built a cofferdam around the temple in 1972, drained the water, and dismantled the temple into more than 45,000 stone blocks and more than 100 stone pillars. In August 1979, the temple was rebuilt on Agilkia Island, about 1 km from Philae Island, according to the original design. On March 10, 1980, the Philae Temple was officially reopened at its new location. The carvings and murals in the temple depict the lives and stories of the gods. The carvings are very delicate and the figures are vivid. Although the stories are about gods, the images are based on real life. The abdominal muscles and knee joints are clearly visible. In Egypt, there is no barrier between gods and humans. The gods are among the people. The faces of the gods are human faces, or the faces of animals that surround them in the sky and on the earth, such as cows, eagles, and snakes, which are often used on the heads of the gods.
