Thailand's Largest Buddha Statue Complex - Wat Pho

Bangkok Fun Short Trip Among Bangkok's largest attractions, Wat Pho is our favorite. In fact, this complex houses some of the city's top structures: the city's largest reclining Buddha, Thailand's largest collection of Buddha statues, and the country's earliest public education center. The highlight of Wat Pho is the impressive reclining Buddha, so large that it almost exceeds the shelter of the temple, located in a pavilion on the west side of the temple complex. You will even find that there are slightly fewer tourists here compared to the nearby Wat Phra Kaew. Wat Pho covers eight hectares, with the main tourist attractions occupying the northern side and the monastery facilities located on the southern side. The temple is also the national headquarters for the teaching and preservation of traditional Thai medicine, including Thai massage, which was decreed by King Rama III when the tradition of Thai massage was on the verge of extinction. This famous massage school has two massage pavilions within the temple grounds and additional rooms in the training facilities outside the temple. A common public ritual at Wat Pho is to place coins (representing donations) into a long row of metal bowls placed behind the Buddha statue. If you don't have enough coins, the staff will provide you with change for larger denominations. Tickets and Other Practical Information 🕰️ Opening Hours: 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM 💰 Admission Fee: 200 THB per person (includes 1 free bottle of water - trust us, you'll need it) Dress Code: Please wear long skirts/pants and sleeved shirts when visiting. Shoes must be removed to enter the temple. A plastic bag will be provided at the entrance for you to wrap your shoes and carry them with you during your visit. Once you reach the outdoors, please place the bag in the collection bin for reuse.
