The vibrant gourd courtyard is a place for visitors to stop and rest. The water courtyard is full of flowing water, giving the whole space a dynamic atmosphere. The contemporary sculptures in the four corners of the courtyard shine with metallic luster, creating a strong visual tension between classical and modern. The courtyard where Huaixuan is located was once the former residence of Yu Pingbo, a famous scholar of Redology, which was purchased by Yu Pingbo's father, Yu Biyun, in the late Qing Dynasty, and the Yu family lived here for more than half a century. Zhu Ziqing, Hu Shi and other close friends of Yu Pingbo have visited the courtyard, and many celebrities in the cultural and art circles have studied Kunqu Opera here. In 2016, this courtyard was listed as a cultural relic protection unit, and was redesigned the following year, with the walls and roof reinforced and renovated. After the renovation, the courtyard has become a new cultural and artistic space of more than 700 square meters.
