Summer in Rongcheng | Du Fu Thatched Cottage

Du Fu Thatched Cottage is the former residence of the poet sage Du Fu during his stay in Chengdu. Du Fu lived here for three years and nine months, creating more than 240 poems that have been passed down to this day. Since the Five Dynasties, it has undergone 13 large-scale renovations and expansions, and has been protected and developed for decades since the founding of the People's Republic of China. It has become the largest, best-preserved, most famous, and most distinctive Du Fu memorial site, and is praised as the "Holy Land of Chinese Literature". Du Fu Thatched Cottage is located at No. 37 Qinghua Road, Qingyang District, Chengdu, Sichuan. It still retains the architectural layout from the Ming and Qing dynasties' renovations and expansions. The screen wall, main gate, main hall, Poetry History Hall, Chaimen, and Gongbu Shrine are arranged on a central axis, flanked by symmetrical corridors and other auxiliary buildings. The cottage mainly consists of the old site memorial shrine, the Thatched Cottage Temple, and the Plum Garden. The cottage houses more than 30,000 volumes of various materials and was later renamed the Chengdu Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum. Du Fu's poetry reflects the process of the Tang Dynasty's decline from its peak to the chaos of the An Lushan Rebellion. The verses created by Du Fu at the Chengdu Thatched Cottage that have been passed down to this day reflect the decline of the Tang Dynasty and the suffering of the people. Therefore, the Thatched Cottage scenic area is also known as the Poetry History. Du Fu Thatched Cottage is a beautiful garden scenic area, including attractions such as ginkgo trees, wood carvings, bamboo gardens, and memorials like Du Fu's bronze statue and the Poetry History Hall. Visitors can revisit Du Fu's verses here and feel the charm of the poet sage.
