The cutest art village in Asia

Bann Kang Wat, or the Artist Village, is hidden in the outskirts of Chiang Mai City in Thailand. After reading reviews online we thought it was something that would take little more than an hour and would be best placed on an itinerary with other things to see in the same morning. However, we were so please we assigned a whole morning to visit. The art village featured a huge variety of small shops and stalls selling different handmade creative crafts. This ranged from souvenirs, clothing, books to workshops for small children on how to paint or make small ceramic items. There are limited food options available, however there was a fantastic restaurant in the centre of the village which served Northern Thai curry noodles in a very authentic manor using bamboo trays. This was very reasonably priced and incredibly tasty. Each stall or shop deserves a slow and careful look. It is clear all these things are made with great love and attention and offers so much inspiration for a visitor. A particular highlight was a bookshop called ‘Name a book’. In this shop you can customise your own notebook using different stamps and presses. Public transport to the art village, like much of Chiang Mai, is limited so highlight recommend taking a Bolt or a Grab to the attraction. The cars stop right outside the village and seem to find it easily. Overall, it is worth spending at least 2 hours and really soaking in all the different items and ideas that are on offer here. #deliciousfood
