Nestled among green hills and tea plantations, Ella is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Sri Lanka. We had a hearty late lunch at Cafe Samsara, a cozy rooftop cafe after a long train ride from Kandy to Ella. Located just 5 minutes walk from Ella train station off the main street, the cafe is a hidden gem which is famous for its flavourful lamprais, a Sri Lankan dish in the form of a packet or lump of rice. The dish mainly consists of meat curry, vegetables and rice wrapped in banana leaves. The cafe also serves a wide selection of drinks as well as local and western food.
