White Emperor City

White Emperor City is located on the north bank of the Yangtze River at the entrance of Qutang Gorge in Fengjie County, Chongqing. It has a deep historical and cultural value. At the end of the Western Han Dynasty, Gongsun Shu built a city on the mountain. Because a well in the city often emitted white gas, like a white dragon, he called himself the White Emperor and named the city White Emperor City. During the Three Kingdoms period, Liu Bei was defeated in the war against Wu and retreated to White Emperor City, where he entrusted his son to Zhuge Liang. This event made White Emperor City famous. The buildings in White Emperor City include the White Emperor Temple, which has Ming and Qing buildings such as Mingliang Hall, Wuhou Temple, and Guanyin Pavilion. Mingliang Hall houses statues of Liu Bei, Zhuge Liang, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, and others, showcasing the culture of the Three Kingdoms. From the perspective of natural scenery, White Emperor City is surrounded by mountains on one side and water on three sides, with high gorges behind and the Yangtze River in front. The magnificent scenery of Kui Gate makes it a great place to enjoy the view of "Kui Gate, the most majestic in the world," attracting many tourists.
