The Bing Ding wood-fired kiln is said to derive its name from the idea that 'Bing fire is yang and vigorous, like the rays of the sun, full of energy radiating outward; Ding fire is yin and gentle, like moonlight or candlelight, inwardly harmonious and soft, thus achieving balance.'
