The beautiful Xichan Temple is located near my home.

Xichan Temple is a key Buddhist temple in the Han Chinese area of China and a protected cultural relic in Fuzhou. It is located at the foot of Yishan Mountain in the Jijiuling Mountains in the western suburbs of Fuzhou and is one of the five major Zen temples in Fuzhou. It was originally the place where Wang Ba practiced Taoism and was known as "Feifeng Luoyang." According to the "Sanshanzhi" by Liang Kekai in the Chunxi period of the Song Dynasty, Wang Ba practiced Taoism here during the Liang Dynasty. During years of famine, he sold medicine and gold to buy rice to help the poor. Later, Wang Ba "shed his skin and left" under a soap pod tree. In 796, the 12th year of the Zhenyuan period of the Tang Dynasty, the people built the "Chongxu Temple" on the old site for worship. In 867, the 8th year of the Xiantong period of the Tang Dynasty, it was rebuilt as a Buddhist temple and renamed "Qingchan Temple" and "Yanshou Temple." Later, the King of Min renamed it "Changqing Temple." In 1038, the 5th year of the Jingyou period of the Song Dynasty, it was given the title "Yishan Changqing Temple." In ancient times, there were Zen temples in the east, west, south, and north suburbs of Fuzhou, and Changqing Temple was located in the western suburbs, so it was commonly known as "Xichan Temple." The Sutra Pavilion houses the "Hundred Longevity Screens" with red bottom and gold characters by Zen Master Xue'an, the "Medicine Buddha Sutra" written by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, the "Lotus Sutra" written in blood, the "Surangama Sutra," and other precious sutras. The couplet reads: "The lychee tree has been passed down for four dynasties since the Song Dynasty, and the sound of the bell has echoed for thousands of years since the Tang Dynasty." It is a poem by Zhou Lian of the Qing Dynasty. The Gratitude Pagoda was built with funds raised by Master Tan Chan, the abbot of Shuanglin Temple in Singapore. Since 1983, Master Tan Chan has been appointed by Xichan Temple as the successor abbot of Shuanglin Temple. To express gratitude for the nurturing of the ancestral temple, the stone pagoda was named "Gratitude Pagoda." The pagoda is 67 meters high and is the tallest stone pagoda in China. Behind the Sutra Pavilion, a new Jade Buddha Building was built, housing two large jade Buddhas donated by overseas Chinese from Myanmar, one sitting and one lying, which are the largest jade Buddhas in China.
