The famous "U-shaped" section of the 315 highway refers to a small section of the road leading to Dongtai. Online, most people focus on the shooting location for the U-shaped highway, but the 200km+ yardang landform zone along the way is more worth seeing, and the Water Yardang is part of it. The national highway crossing the desert and yardang landscape is worth having. Many friends will be concerned about whether it is dangerous to drive on this road. ☑☑️It is important to note that this is a national highway, and you can drive along it. There are constant vehicles coming and going on the national highway, so there is no need to worry. ‼️However, never drive off the national highway on your own. It is really dangerous to enter and exit the yardang landform zone at will. Do not do this if you are traveling with your family. 💖Accommodation I chose the Lonely Interstellar (Gobi) Glamping Hotel located in Dongtai. The hotel is next to the Water Yardang Scenic Area, and you can see part of the scenery from the hotel, which is highly recommended. The hotel is located in the yardang landform, and you can experience the desired feeling of grandeur, fantasy, loneliness, antiquity, and mystery. Being in it has a strong visual impact, and with the hotel's design, it feels like walking on Mars. You can find a shooting location anywhere, and the photos are amazing. 💖Attractions In addition to the Water Yardang, Dongtai Jin'er Lake and Xitai Jin'er Lake are also nearby. If you are interested, you can visit them as well. However, the beauty of these two lakes can only be fully appreciated through aerial photography, and the on-site effect is average. If you have limited time and have been to the Jade Lake in Dachaidan, you can skip them. If you have plans to go to Mangya, you will pass by them. I personally suggest not making a special arrangement. ➡️Inside the Water Yardang Scenic Area, there is a shuttle bus. There are four drop-off points. Still, starting from the deepest drop-off point, choose your own route from the inside out. The scenery is similar, so choose 1-2 key attractions to visit. 💖Itinerary arrangement Dongtai is not on the main Northwest China road trip route, it is a branch attraction. A round trip is over 400km, about 6 hours. You need to arrange a separate night to stay in Dongtai. There are several branch attractions in Haixi, but due to limited time, you can choose your favorite branch attractions. 315 "U-shaped" highway + Water Yardang + Mars Base Lonely Interstellar (Gobi) Glamping Hotel is highly recommended.
