2024 Guiyang Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Guiyang is a famous city for escaping the summer heat, as it is a city of forests. The city's mountains and water combine to make up a magnificent landscape. The climate here is also very suitable for living. Summers are cool but winters are not too cold. If you want to travel and play in the downtown area, you can visit the landmark local Jiaxiu Building or Zhucheng Plaza. You can also climb up the mountain at Qianling Mountain Park and pray for good fortune at Hongfu Temple. Many tourists and travelers go to the Huaxi District in the outer suburbs. Principal cinematography on the classic Chinese movie "The Missing Gun" took place at Qingyan Ancient Town and Huaxi National Wetlands Park. Guiyang's cuisine is also not to be missed. Food from Guizhou is characteristically known for being sour and spicy. The abundant variety of snacks and many bustling night markets have a distinctly unique charm.

Checking in at Guiyang White House.
The weather was pretty good this afternoon, so I decided to go out for a walk. I came across Guiyang White House online, which was described as a great spot for photos in a wealthy area. So, I decided to check it out in person. Well, it's nice. It's a good place for taking photos, and the pictures turn out great. The wetland park is quite large, perfect for a stroll. There's also some crayfish, and a mall next to the park where you can shop, eat, and drink. It's even better for photos at night. You can take pictures of the White House and the office buildings on the other side. Whether it's day, night, or rainy, you can capture three different scenes at once. Awesome!

||Brother's kindergarten graduation trip.
If you take a late flight from Xiamen to Guiyang, stay at Guiyang East Station (Mediterranean Hotel)
I must say this hotel is really cheap and clean, right next to the East Station
It's a 20-minute drive from Guiyang Longdongbao Airport
The next day, take the 9:17 am high-speed train, arrive at Zunyi South Station in half an hour, and take a taxi to Wujiang Village West Village Entrance (20 minutes by car)
This time we booked the Qian Shuyuan Hotel (highly recommended for families) Arrive at the West Village Entrance to check in and arrange for luggage to be delivered to the hotel
You can also take the shuttle bus back to the hotel with your luggage
(We carried our luggage back to the hotel ourselves because the luggage arrived later than us) We arrived at the hotel around 11 am
That's when the performance programs start
Every day in the village, from 11 am to 10 pm, the schedule of each time slot is very tight You can follow Wujiang Village's official WeChat account
to check attractions, hotels, food, leisure and entertainment, and more, all with navigation included, which is very convenient
It's recommended to watch all the shows on the first day you arrive so that you don't have to rush the next day
The performances that are really worth watching include
Bamboo drifting (an intangible cultural heritage project) where kids are amazed, the Bafang Banquet folk performance (not recommended for dining), the Lantern Ceremony, the Music Water Dance Show, the Drone Bonfire Party
Honestly, the quality of the programs in Wujiang Village is very high, kids can experience various folk cultural performances during the day, wander around the village
Feel the traditional artistic aesthetics between the mountains and rivers in a stilted building
At night, the night view of Wujiang Village and the drones will definitely make your trip worthwhile

Must-Visit Attractions
Qingyan Ancient Town, Qingyun Market 👍🏻, The White House, Qianling Mountain Park, Jiaxiu Tower
The White House is stunning to see in person, although it's a pity that there are too many people taking photos for others. Qingyun Market is bustling and dazzling to the eyes🤣🤣🤣There's so much to buy

A Solo Trip to Guiyang | A 3-Day 2-Night Lightning Protection Strategy
Day1: 1⃣️ Arrive in Guiyang at noon, visit Qianling Mountain Park to see monkeys in the afternoon. There are the most monkeys near Hongfu Temple, monkeys everywhere as long as you don't carry bags or water, they generally won't attack! (Play time about 2-3 hours) 2⃣️ After getting tired, go to Minsheng Road for snacks, a street full of food (Food recommendations: Danjia Crispy Duck, Crispy Potato Cake, Love Tofu Fruit, Bowl Cake, Sausage Prosperity Noodles, Sour Soup Fish) 3⃣️ After eating, you can go to Jiaxiu Tower and Huaguoyuan White House to take night photos, Huaguoyuan White House is very photogenic! (Qianling Park, Jiaxiu Tower, Huaguoyuan White House these three places are not far from each other, accessible by bus) 4⃣️ Accommodation suggestion: stay near the fountain
Day2: Joined a day tour (Libo Small Seven Holes - Qianhu Miao Village), the tour I joined only included the transportation fee, nothing else. Since the attractions in Guizhou are quite scattered, I think it might be more convenient to join a tour! 1⃣️ Depart at 7 am, arrive at Libo Small Seven Holes Scenic Area at 12 pm, if it didn't rain heavily the day before, you will see a place like an emerald, beautiful scenery, but also crowded, basically queuing for sightseeing buses all the way. 2⃣️ Depart at 17:00 to Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village, arrive at the village's main north gate around 20:30, take a sightseeing bus to the small north gate inside the scenic area, the place I stayed had a night view right out of the window, and there was a quiet little bar next door suitable for 2-3 people to drink and enjoy the evening breeze, just tipsy enough! (However, I prefer the Miao Village during the day, the layered Miao Village is very characteristic)!
Day3: 1⃣️ In the morning, went to Dongyin Village viewing platform to see the fields, terraces, stilted buildings, Beauty Lean, and the various aspects of local life in Xijiang 2⃣️ Then went to the Miao Village Museum (opposite the old street basketball court) to learn about the history and culture of the Miao Village. 3⃣️ In the afternoon at 14:00, went to the Lusheng Field to watch the local performance (free of charge) 4⃣️ After the performance, went to 'Yedong Village' to experience handmade batik!
⚠️ Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village Scenic Area has a direct bus to Kaili South High-speed Railway Station 🚌 (25/person) that departs at fixed times! I just didn't check the time and missed the bus. I took a private car that solicits passengers at the entrance of the scenic area (40/person).
⚠️ Don't book too high for accommodation in Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village, it's hard to climb stairs, and the roads inside the village are also uneven. Ask the store in advance which gate to get off at, the scenic area is divided into west and north gates.
Tickets 🎫:
Qianling Mountain Park (2.5/person)
Libo Small Seven Holes + Sightseeing Car (110/person)
Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village + 4 Sightseeing Cars (65/person)
Essentials: Umbrella, Sunglasses, Mosquito Repellent Water, Sun Protection Clothing, Sunscreen, Wet Wipes, Earphones, Tissues, Power Bank
Travel Guide | Spending a Day in Guiyang, My Recommendation Is
📝The order of visiting Guiyang in one day: Qianling Park - Jiaxiu Tower - White House
✅✅✅Qianling Park
Qianling Mountain Park is a great place for locals in Guiyang to relax and keep fit, and for tourists from other places, it's quite nice to stroll around with an entrance fee of 5 yuan. In the park, you can take the cable car, pray in the temple, see small animals in the zoo, match wits with monkeys, and overlook Guiyang from the mountaintop. 💰For just 5 yuan, you can enjoy so much, absolutely great value!
🔥Recommended route: East Gate - Panda House - Other Animal Houses - Hongfu Temple - Kan Zhu Pavilion - South Gate The South Gate is the main entrance, most people will enter from the South Gate, the East Gate is in the residential area with fewer people, entering from the East Gate can effectively avoid the crowd. Qianling Mountain is the cheapest place to see giant pandas🐼, it will be crowded, ⏰opening hours 10-17. If you don't want to walk down the mountain, you can take the cable car directly to the South Gate.
‼️‼️‼️Warm tips: The monkeys in Qianling Mountain are notorious and there are many of them, concentrated around Hongfu Temple - Kan Zhu Pavilion area, some monkeys are quite annoying, they will snatch food from people's hands, so if you bring food, don't carry it in your hand, it's best to put it in your backpack so it can't be seen!!!
✅✅✅Jiaxiu Tower
In March, the Jiaxiu Tower is just when the pear blossoms bloom, it's simply too beautiful!
🌸Flower viewing spot: Cuiwei Courtyard. Walk 100 meters along the city wall next to Cuiwei Garden, turn right after entering the gate and keep walking towards Jiaxiu Tower and you'll see the pear blossoms~
The latest visiting time for Jiaxiu Tower is 6 pm, remember to make an appointment in advance on WeChat 'One Code Tour Guizhou'.
✅✅✅White House
There are various rumors about this building🏰, it can be said to be very mysterious... The more common rumor is that the owner has already gone in, and now it's confiscated... Anyway, it's quite certain that some areas inside this building are indeed open to the public as 'art centers' and other functions, and many people have been inside, it's very lavish‼️
Find a good photo spot, and when night falls and all the lights of the White House are on, just snap away, it's beautiful! After visiting the White House, you can also check out Guiyang's iconic building 'Twin Towers', which is also very photogenic!📸
🏨Guiyang Accommodation: For accommodation in Guiyang, the Daxiya Hotel is recommended, the hotel is not far from the above-mentioned attractions, and it's very convenient to take a taxi! The night view is also incredibly beautiful, with a buffet breakfast provided, and the taste is also very good! Great value for money, average cost 100+.
Traveling in Guiyang, this building is quite interesting and the architecture is stunning
🏰 As a landmark building in Guiyang, we still made a point to visit the White House. We took a taxi directly to the footbridge at the base of the building, and only then did we realize how vast the area is. Covering more than 6,000 acres, the exterior walls are incredibly high. The recommended visiting sequence is to first look at the exterior walls and the courtyard inside, check out any exhibitions if available, then cross the street via the footbridge, continue taking photos by the lawn across the street, and finally delve into the Huaguoyuan Wetland Park behind it, taking pictures against the backdrop of the lake, which offers the most beautiful and perfect view.

Admission: Free
—————————
🏰 This mysterious yet massive impressive building is one of Guiyang's landmarks, the White House. It is recommended to visit in the evening to see both the daytime and nighttime views. It can only be described as magical, as if it houses visitors from another world.
🌟 Mysterious Background
There are many legends about this place, and it's unclear which are true. A private mansion costing 2.7 billion, it's forbidden to visit and no one knows what it looks like inside. Now it seems that it can only be admired from the outside, with the lower floors rented out as an exhibition center, hosting some exhibitions, but the true background is unknown.
🌟 Gorgeous Palace-style Architecture
From a distance, it looks like a Baroque-style white palace, grand and luxurious, built against the mountain. The classical stunning castle-style and the magnificent architecture are reflected in the lake in front, creating a mirrored image. Taking photos from afar in the Huaguoyuan Wetland Park, the park has a great atmosphere, and the photo success rate is high. The combination of the lake's mirror surface and the distant buildings is absolutely perfect.
🌟 Atmosphere When the Lights Come On
The lights come on at 7 pm, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a European castle in a blockbuster film. It's also incredibly beautiful to visit at night. The area is bustling, with the square in front becoming an ideal spot for citizens to sightsee and relax. It's worth noting that this place once set the record for the largest square dance with 100,000 people dancing.
🏰 As a landmark building in Guiyang, it is said that every local has at least one photo of this place on their phone, truly a stunning piece of architecture, like a castle, and worth a visit.
The travel to Guiyang is heart-shaking with its giant array of bizarre rocks and the mystery of rugged stones and broken walls
🗿 Take note: This is the reason I came to Guiyang. In fact, before this trip, the reason why I chose Guiyang, apart from the cuisine, was that Yelang Valley really was a place I longed to visit, to experience the shock. So, the next morning, the first stop we made was to Yelang Valley.
—————————
Name: Huaxi Yelang Valley
Address: Intersection of Siyang Road and Huayan Road, Huaxi District, Guiyang City, Guizhou Province
Open: 08:30-19:00, no entry after 18:00
Ticket: 20 yuan
—————————
🗿 Walking into Yelang Valley, I originally thought it was an ancient village with some folk characteristics and rugged stone statues, but as I walked further in, passing through the winding paths and into the suddenly clear valley beside the mountains, my goodness! It was stunning, so shocking!
🌟 Shocking
Stepping into Yelang Valley, the first sight is shocking. Walking down the stone steps into the valley, surrounded by mountains, stand the astonishing stone statues. Walking among them, every direction offers a finely carved, shocking scene, and the area is vast, visually magnificent, breathtaking.
🌟 Bizarre
The stone statues have a bizarre tribal texture, as if they have been gone for many years. The bizarre totem-like images have an indescribable sense of wonder. Regarding these bizarre stone statues, I can't say what they mean, I only know that their strangeness is fascinating.
🌟 Mysterious
This place seems like an ancient, lost mysterious tribe. A winding river stretches across the mysterious valley, as if it's a long-standing relic of civilization. Standing in this valley, looking up, it feels like being transported to a place never reached before.
🌟 Artistic
Rugged paths, city walls, castles, stone bridges, this is a natural open-air art gallery, where each stone sculpture is exquisitely detailed and unique. The so-called 'Yelang Valley' is the Yelang imagined by artists, a creation of twenty years, presented before the world.
🗿 This is undoubtedly one of the most impressive attractions I have visited recently. Laughter, anger, eeriness, horror, all kinds of stone statues converge in this mysterious world, making it a great photo spot. The ticket is also cheap, worth a visit, and makes the trip worthwhile.

Huaxi is not only famous for its beef noodles, but also for the last touch of autumn in Guiyang
Huaxi in Guiyang is known nationwide for a bowl of beef noodles, but Huaxi is not just about beef noodles, it also hides the last touch of autumn in Guiyang this year!
❤Huaxi National Urban Wetland Park includes several attractions such as Shili River Beach, Kong Xuetang, Dacheng Mountain, Huaxi Park, etc. There is a poem saying: 'Real mountains and real waters are everywhere, and the layout of Huaxi is even more natural. The Shili River Beach is as clear as a mirror, and there are flower gardens and farmlands every few steps.'
Although the solar term has already entered winter, the autumn in Huaxi is still strong. It is recommended to enjoy the autumn at Huaxi Park and the north gate of Shili River Beach.
📌Huaxi Park, which can be traced back to the Qing Dynasty at the earliest, has a retired fighter jet in the central area, which is very beautiful when viewed from the air.
📌At the north gate of Shili River Beach, there is a large area of fir forest, which looks like a heart shape when viewed from the air, and many citizens come to take pictures.
⚠️Tips: Huaxi National Urban Wetland Park is very large, it is recommended to plan the route in advance. You can eat at the cross street outside Huaxi Park, where there are various local snacks in Guiyang, and there are also milk tea and coffee available for purchase.

Jiaxiulou, witness to the prosperity of Guiyang's history!
Jiaxiulou
Jiaxiulou was built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, and "Jiaxiu" means "outstanding scholars". Currently, Jiaxiulou is designated as the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council as part of the "Wenchang Pavilion, Hehe and Jiaxiulou", and has become a must-visit attraction for tourists in Guiyang.
Jiaxiulou is divided into three parts: Fuyu Bridge, Jiaxiulou, and Cuiwei Garden, which are ancient and elegant architectural complexes. With the towering buildings of the city, the combination of ancient and modern styles echoes each other, making people sigh with emotion for the vicissitudes of history.
Visit Jiaxiu Tower around 4pm, and if you're lucky, you can see the fiery clouds. Wander around and grab some food, and when night falls, take a stroll through the bustling night market streets to see the prosperity fade away.

Guizhou Province, Nanning District, Xinhua Road, Cuiwei Lane, No. 8.

1 person, 20 years, forging a mysterious tribe.
"The arrogance of Yelang" is a well-known story, appearing in the Yelang ancient country more than two thousand years ago during the Qin and Han dynasties, alongside the ancient Loulan and ancient Qiuci countries, flourishing for a time and renowned throughout the world. Crossing through the mysterious tunnels of history, the charm of Yelang culture is endless. In a Yelang valley in Guizhou, modern imagination of ancient Yelang is fully integrated.
Using the phrase "unknown to the world" to describe Nightingale Valley is very appropriate. Before entering the scenic area, a forest blocks out the noise from the city. Looking around, all you see are trees, but once you pass through the Masson pine forest, you discover a hidden paradise. The canyon is long and deep, like a giant tear in the earth. Walking along the valley floor, you'll come across small bridges and flowing water, making for a pleasant journey. Looking up from below, the white clouds are far away, and the towering cliffs are breathtaking!
Here is the Nightman under the command of Song Peilun, an artist who has returned from traveling in America. When living in the United States, Song Peilun created "Nightman Castle, Nightman Totem, Nightman Masks", and in China, he also created large-scale Nightman national works such as "Devil City, Nightman Valley", as well as many artworks related to Nightman culture. Nightman Valley is Song Peilun's masterpiece among the green mountains and clear waters.
Jungle hike to a secret waterfall in Guizhou
Our hike to a secret waterfall near Guiyang City in Guizhou was a thrilling adventure that we will never forget. The three-hour trek took us through dense jungle and rocky terrain, with stunning views at every turn.
As we made our way deeper into the jungle, we were struck by the diversity of flora and fauna that surrounded us. We saw colorful butterflies, exotic birds, and even a few monkeys swinging from the trees. The air was thick with the sounds of nature, creating a serene and peaceful atmosphere.
However, our hike wasn't without its challenges. As we neared the waterfall, a sudden rainstorm hit, drenching us and making the path slippery and treacherous. But despite the rain and the difficult terrain, we pushed on, driven by our determination to see the secret waterfall.
And when we finally reached our destination, all of our efforts were rewarded. The waterfall was a magnificent sight to behold, with water cascading down from great heights into a crystal-clear pool below. It was an exhilarating experience, and we felt a deep sense of accomplishment for having made the journey.

The waterfall was a magnificent sight to behold, with water cascading down from great heights into a crystal-clear pool below. It was an exhilarating experience, and we felt a deep sense of accomplishment for having made the journey.

The Stunning Arts Center!
Guiyang Arts Center...Chinese name: 铂翎汇艺术中心
This is a stunning building (the best one in Guizhou in my opinion) in the city of Guiyang in Guizhou province.
Getting there: Fast train from Kunming, Guangzhou, Changhsha or Chongqing to the center of Guiyang. This are is called the Hua Guo Yuan area in Nan Ming Qu.
Then take the subway or didi to Guiyang Arts center building. The building is on the edge of a gigantic park where you can spend the day walking, having a picnic, exercising, playing games or just relaxing. The building is huge and it looks like a beautiful palace.
Nearby there is an excellent shopping center for buying clothes or for eating food.

Guiyang - hills, forests and monkeys.
Resting at about 1200 m altitude, Guiyang is a reasonably cold city in winter for that far south. What is striking about it, is the sheer amount of green the city incorporates. It does not therefore, come as a surprise, that its main sights are actually parks and forests and animals living there. We chose to stay in the center, near where the two metro lines cross. It was a solid location, but a bit further south, closer to the Nanming river, would have been optimal. If budget is not a consideration for you booking one of the upscale hotels with a view of the river and the Jiaxiu pavilion is a great option. Taking an evening stroll along the river was pleasant, Jiaxiu pavilion and especially the bridge it sits on have a really authentic feel to it. Further west down the river there are really nice murals that combined with some 'projector magic' tell really nice stories at night. Guiyang is also known as a liquor producer, so if you spot some buildings reminding you of liquor bottles it is not your imagination. What I found a bit infuriating about the city center is how restricted its streets and pavements feel. Very rarely will a street let you cross without shoving you down to a shabby looking underpass with no working escalator. While this works great for the traffic safety, it does make a casual stroll around the city quite annoying.
But, where the Guiyang really shines and why it should be visited are its parks and forests.
To start with QianLing Mountain Park was probably the best place we went to in Guiyang. A large centrally located park in the middle of the city has everything you would want from a park. Hills, forests, small lakes, temples, great views, a cable car for those less willing to hike, a small zoo and of course the monkeys. A lot of monkeys. A lot of always hungry monkeys. While I found them great and highly entertaining in their attempts to steal and rob you of anything that can count as food, some precaution might be in order. Keep your backpacks firmly zipped, your phone unexposed and in general do not show any food unless you are willing to have it taken from you.
Apart from QianLing, Guiyang's aptly named forest park is another large park. I am actually not sure if there is an official entrance to this large patch of forest. I entered by a muddy road bypassing a construction site and exited on the other side through someone's vegetable farm. Still, the actual forest is really nice and large and there is a Red cross memorial for those interested in Wartime history.
To sum up, we liked Guiyang, it felt rather different than most big cities. Really green, the city itself a bit rundown, but also laid back.

The resting pavilion for the old: Zhenshancun
China is one of the few countries that has good social welfare and good social programs. One other thing that they are good at is taking care of their elderly. Apart from providing them with social services, they went the extra mile to establish places that the elderly can meet up to play, listen to music, dance and relax. An example of this is seen today as we headed to Zhenshan village, we noticed a beautiful pavilion that caters for the village’s elderly. They were relaxing and playing cards as well as mahjong.
This pavilion is located not so far from the main entrance to the village.
