Climb Mount Heng at night and enjoy a sunrise that will take your breath away. 🎉 Preparation • ID: Bring your ID card or other valid ID. • Clothing: Wear comfortable sportswear and sneakers in spring and autumn. In summer, wear light, breathable clothing and bring sunscreen. In winter, bring a down jacket, warm pants, non-slip warm shoes, a hat, a scarf, gloves, etc. • Other items: Bring a hiking stick, sunglasses, a power bank, tissues, and some snacks and water. Transportation • Plane: Fly to Hengyang Nanyue Airport, which is about a 30-minute drive from Mount Heng, or to Changsha Huanghua International Airport, then take a high-speed train to Mount Heng, which is about a 1.5-hour drive away. • High-speed train: We recommend taking a train to Hengshan West Station, which is about 8 km from the scenic area. There are buses to the scenic area. • Train or bus: After arriving at Hengyang Railway Station, take a bus to Hengyang Central Bus Station, then take a direct bus to Nanyue. • Self-driving: Navigate to "Nanyue Hengshan Scenic Area Visitor Center". There is a parking lot in the scenic area, but parking spaces may be limited during peak season. Attractions • Nanyue Temple: The largest ancient building complex in southern China, known as the "No. 1 Temple in Southern China" and the "Forbidden City of the South". Tickets cost CNY 58. • Zhuruong Peak: The main peak of Mount Heng, with an altitude of 1,300.2 meters. It is a great place to watch the sunrise, sea of clouds, and sunset. • Cangjing Temple: A palace-style building with red walls and glazed tiles. It houses a large collection of Buddhist classics and cultural relics. • Fangguang Temple: Located at the foot of Lotus Peak, the temple is home to an ancient ginkgo tree that is over 1,400 years old. • Shuilian Cave: A natural cave under Ziguai Peak with a beautiful waterfall. Food • Hengshan Cured Meat: Cured meat and sausages with a unique flavor. • Nanyue Rice Noodles: A popular local snack. • Hengshan Mountain Delicacies: Try wild vegetables such as yam and bamboo shoots. • Specialty Dishes: Dongpo Pork, Fried Pork with Hibiscus, Crispy Tripe, Tofu, etc. Accommodation • Near Nanyue Temple: There are many hotels nearby, making it convenient to visit the temple and nearby attractions. • Nanyue Hot Spring Resort: If you want to enjoy a hot spring, choose a hot spring resort hotel here. • Villas in Hengshan Scenic Area: Experience a more natural environment, but prices are higher and conditions are relatively limited. Hiking Routes • Scenic Area Shuttle Route: Visitor Center - Banshan Pavilion - Nantian Gate - Zhuruong Peak. Suitable for most visitors. • Classic Hiking Route: Shengli Archway → Kangjialong Ticket Checkpoint → Left of Huayan Lake → Martyrs' Shrine → Banshan Pavilion → Xuandu Temple → Ye Hou Academy → Iron Buddha Temple → Xiangnan Temple → Patriarch Hall → Nantian Gate → Zhuruong Peak. The route is about 10 km long and takes 4–5 hours. • Brahma Ancient Path: Shengli Archway → Kangjialong Ticket Checkpoint → Brahma Ancient Path → Right of Huayan Lake → Brahma Pavilion → Martyrs' Shrine → Ye Hou Academy → Nantian Gate → Zhuruong Peak. The route is about 12–13 km long.
