Lara Djonggrang introduces you to one of the most atmospheric dining experiences in the capital city, with stunning interiors filled with art collections that would easily make you think you’re dining in a museum or art gallery. Ancient tribal art pieces in one corner; then a very rare photo or painting in another. The restaurant comprises several separate dining rooms, with the main Lara Djonggrang dining hall with an impressive five-metre-tall statue of the namesake Majapahit princess. Various menu packages are available, with seafood, satay and set degustation menus starting from IDR 220,000. A fantastic experience with a real local feel. This restaurant serves authentic Indonesian and Sudanese food, so brace yourself for a multitude of dishes to choose from – from the classic gurame goreng (fried carp), ayam bakar (grilled chicken) and sop bontot (ox tail soup) among many others. Take note that it is not a buffet set-up. Choose the dish of your liking and a server will prepare them accordingly and serve it to your table! Adopted from The Balinese language which means Dirty Duck, Bebek Bengil has been here in Jakarta since 2009. The first branch is originally located in Ubud, Bali. Their concept is actually to bring the Balinese ambience to this city. The signature dish here is the Crispy Duck served with stir-fried of string bean and bean sprouts. Don’t worry, the chilli sauce has been included in the package. The original fried duck is, in my humble opinion, second to none. Coupled with the special sambal chilli and onions mix, it is simply irresistable!To top it all up, the price is very reasonable The balinese decoration is another plus point and it makes the place feel some calm and comfortable. For some more Indonesian local cuisine, you should give this A-class restaurant which a Dutch architecture a visit. This restaurant is very popular among the expats around Jakarta. You will find the entire restaurant filled with luxurious furniture and wallpaper. For the food, you can try Nasi Buketan, a big portion of green rice accompanied with meat skewers, sweet fried potato, diced omelette, and chilli sauce. Prices were on the higher side but for the setting, food presentation and ambience of the place I would say it was worth every cent. If there is a slight complaint from me it would be that the menu has no pictures so you must take your time reading the descriptions of each item before you order. Dapur Solo

This is another Javanese restaurant which specifically serves a variety of dishes from Solo, Central Java. As the other Javanese restaurant, dishes at Dapur Solo comes laden with sweet and spicy. One of the most renowned food from Solo is Nasi Liwet or in Javanese, we call it Sego Liwet. Nasi Liwet is a kind of rice cooked with coconut milk and Indonesian herbs added with shredded chicken, cooked squash, boiled egg, and of course, sambal (chilli sauce). When you want REAL Indonesian cuisine as enjoyed by Indonesian people at home, this is the place. No unnecessary garnish or decoration, just great authentic taste. Smarapura Resto

Balinese food does not have to be enjoyed in Bali. It can be found in this capital city of Jakarta too. Just located not far from Bebek Kaleyo, Smarapura Resto has a homey ambience with a local touch of Bali. There are 4 wooden gazeboes adorned with typical Balinese fabric in its surrounding. The waiter and waitress here also wear a traditional Balinese suit. A famous dish from Bali you must try is Nasi Ayam Betutu. Another good option is Nasi Campur Bali. It is a lovely restaurant with a lovely and romantic atmosphere, and the food is fantastic. I had the duck and my girlfriend the nasi campur, both were delicious. If you ask the people in Jakarta about the best place to eat duck in Jakarta, they will definitely answer “Bebek Kaleyo!”. This place is especially for those who love spicy meals. The duck which can be a kind of tough meat can be found tenderly cooked here, with the taste of spices perfectly absorbed deep within. The favourite dish here is Bebek Goreng Cabe Hijau (Fried Duck with Green Chili). But if you still cannot live without red chillis, don’t worry as they are always ready on each table. The resto has spacious room for guests to dine there. Beside bebek, you can order for chicken too here. Taken out from the Javanese language, Omah Sendok literally means “House of Spoon”. This restaurant used to be a house which has been turned into a restaurant. That is why you will find the authentic home ornaments such as its wooden chairs and tables. There is also a view of the pool while you enjoy your meal. Nice ambiance, good food, good service but not easy to find since it located not on busy main road but in some houses block. well, waze app will guide you though. It was a semi colonial with javanese touch house style that renovated to be a restaurant which served indonesian food which is works well. This restaurant is such a unique place and I think one of the most memorable restaurants I've ever been to in my life. This restaurant is located in the Kota Tua (Old Town) of Jakarta. Do not be surprised if see more foreigners than Indonesian people here. This restaurant preserved its colonial design and structure since 1837. Enjoy your seating in the classy wooden chairs with your selected local food such as Soto Betawi, Nasi Campur, or their signature Batavia Fried Rice. When you walk through the doors, it's like walking back in time. The building has a rich history that is part of the fabric of Jakarta. For satay galore, head down to this satay house on Jalan Pakubuwono in South Jakarta, where all your craving for this popular Indonesian grilled meat dish will be answered. In fact, there are several branches spread out all over the capital city. Satays range from lamb, beef, chicken and lilit or wrapped style, each with optional mixes. Seribu Rasa, or ‘a thousand tastes’ in Indonesian, is popular with Southeast Asian dishes, as well as Javanese and ‘Peranakan’ heritage dishes. In here you can experience the seafood with different islands flavors. On the menu you will find quite a rich mix, from Hokkien spring rolls to oriental seafood cakwee fried breads under appetizers, Tasik style fish head gulai or thick soup and Jimbaran-style grilled fish under seafood selections, and Binjai fried chicken, Thai grilled boneless chicken thigh and beef rendang a la Minangkabau under meats.
