Dai Residence | Ordinary appearance, but full of traps inside, with secret passages to hide soldiers

Dai Li (1897-1946), courtesy name Zipei, was a Chinese spymaster and head of the Bureau of Investigation and Statistics, the intelligence agency of the Republic of China. He died in a plane crash on March 17, 1946. Due to his unpredictable whereabouts, he was called "a mysterious figure in Asia" by the American magazine Collier's. The Dai Residence was designed by Dai Li himself in 1943 and supervised by his brother Dai Chunbang. It is located in the middle of Xiaojie Street in Bao'an Town. It is an ordinary residential house with white walls, gray tiles, red pillars, and mud floors. The Dai Residence has 85 doors and 122 windows. Its ordinary and simple appearance makes it difficult to associate with the powerful Dai Li. However, the rooms are full of traps, with hidden weapons and ambushes, and are also convenient for escape. The most famous is the secret escape passage. Even the money pine tree planted in the yard has hidden secrets. 🌈Highlights: ✅Secret escape passage: There are two staircases in the house, one bright and one dark. The bright staircase is in front, and the dark staircase is behind, hidden behind cabinets, altars, and curtains, making it difficult to detect. It is spiral-shaped and can only accommodate one person to pass sideways. The upstairs rooms have many windows and doors, and are interconnected, like a maze. ✅The house looks like a two-story building, but it is actually a three-story building, with a small secret room on the bottom floor. There are 7 rooms upstairs, with a living room and study in the middle, and bedrooms around. There are secret rooms in the walls of the living room, narrow and cramped, only for one person to stand. They can store weapons, and are suitable for hiding, escaping, and dodging. They are usually closed, with no gaps. ✅The main hall is called "Shude Hall," with a plaque written by Dai Li himself. In the middle hangs a standard portrait of Dai Li, with a couplet written by Zhang Shizhao on both sides. ✅Dai Li was a filial son and specially bought a dressing mirror for his mother from abroad.
