Tangdou Temple

Tangdou Temple is located near Panlong Mountain in Gaojiawa Village, Gangou Subdistrict, Licheng District, Jinan City. Although it is not a famous temple in China, the scenery is very beautiful, especially inside the temple, where there is a ginkgo tree that has lived for more than 1,000 years. According to the Qianlong edition of the Licheng County Annals and the Daoguang edition of the Jinan Prefecture Annals, the name of Tangdou Temple originated in the Tang Dynasty. Legend has it that when Li Shimin was on an eastern expedition, he passed by this place. Due to the fatigue of the journey, he camped here to rest and repair the army. However, there was a severe drought, and the nearby villages had no harvest, and the army was short of food, so the soldiers had to dig wild vegetables to satisfy their hunger. Li Shimin was very sad about this. He came to a mountain wall, held a sword, and angrily cut the mountain wall. At this time, a miracle happened. A large hole appeared in the mountain wall, and several streams of clear springs gushed out. What was amazing was that there were beans flowing out of the spring water. Li Shimin and his army were overjoyed. They drank the spring water and ate the beans, and their morale was greatly boosted. They immediately got out of the predicament, and the "Tangdou Spring" was named after this. Next to the spring is a tall and straight ancient ginkgo tree.
