Visit Kochi: The Land of Sakamoto Ryoma

Sakamoto Ryoma, Nakaoka Shintaro, and Takechi Hanpeita. It has been over ten years since the statues of these prominent Bakumatsu-era samurai, who represent Kochi, were installed at the south exit of JR Kochi Station. These three statues were created in 2011 as a highlight of the prefecture's tourism campaign 'Shikoku Kochi Ryoma Furusato Expo.' Made of specially processed styrofoam, each statue, including its pedestal, stands 8.3 meters tall and cost approximately 2 million yen to produce. At the south exit of JR Kochi Station, you'll find the Kochi Tourist Information Center and 'Saterasu' at Kochi Tabi Plaza. This spacious and clean information center offers pamphlets and maps for each district, making it a great resource for travelers.
