If you want, to do this adventure in Namtha. You should rent a bicycle from one of Luang Namtha's many bike rental shops. Take a look at the Valley route's free map booklet (available at various spots in town - tour companies, guesthouses, tourist office, etc.). Take some water with you and go!! My adventure resulted in a truly enjoyable day. The road is well-marked and passes through rice fields, rivers, stupas, villages, and other sights.
