Zhang Zai Temple

Zhang Zai Temple, also known as Zhang Zi Temple, is located 26 kilometers east of Meixian Town in Baoji City, Shaanxi Province, in Hengqu Town. It is the place of lecture for Zhang Zai, a famous thinker, philosopher, educator, and leader of the Guan School during the Northern Song Dynasty of China. The predecessor of Zhang Zai Temple was the Chongshou Institute, where Zhang Zai studied in his youth and where he continued to teach after retiring in his later years. After his death, people commemorated him by renaming the Chongshou Institute to Hengqu Academy. The Zhang Zai Temple is mainly built in the Song Dynasty antique style, with characteristics of Qing Dynasty architecture, and follows a 'rear temple, front academy' layout. 🌟The temple now has four exhibition rooms: Exhibition of Zhang Zai's Life and Deeds Exhibition of Zhang Zai's Thought and Culture Exhibition of Guan School Cultural Heritage Exhibition of Zhang Family's Traditions and Family Instructions. The temple currently houses an imperial plaque from Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, as well as pen containers, seals, and inkstones from the Hengqu Academy; it also preserves more than 50 stone steles left by literati and poets since the Northern Song Dynasty; Six ancient cypress trees within the temple have withstood the test of time and still stand tall, witnessing history. 📍Detailed address: No. 045, West Street, Hengqu Town, Meixian, Baoji City, Shaanxi Province. 🕙Opening hours: April 1st—October 31st: 8:30-12:00 AM, 1:30-5:30 PM; November 1st—March 31st: 9:00-12:00 AM, 1:00-5:00 PM.
