Tulou villages: my favorite countryside 🌾

China has spectacular vernacular architecture all over the country, and the Tulou houses are definitely one of the most unique and interesting architectural typology of all. Belonging to the Hakka people, Tulou are huge fortified dwelling meant to host several families belonging to the same clan. A Tulou is split between families into slices, so that each one owns a piece of every floor. At the bottom there are kitchen and spaces for the livestock, while on upper floors are storage and bedrooms. It's difficult to capture in picture how amazing these structures are.
