A Hundred Grottoes and a Thousand Forms - Departing from Dunhuang

March 6, 2024, the 'A Hundred Grottoes and a Thousand Forms - Departing from Dunhuang Wu Jian Photography Art Exhibition' opened at the Buddha Top Palace Zen Scenery Grand View in the Niushou Mountain Cultural Tourism Zone in Nanjing. A Silk Road light and shadow rendezvous unfolds, showcasing the inheritance of grotto culture, the innovation of Dunhuang art, and the charm of Niushou cultural tourism. The exhibition lasts for six months and mainly displays 60 photographic works by Wu Jian, Vice Chairman of the China Photographers Association, Vice Chairman of the Gansu Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and Chairman of the Gansu Provincial Photographers Association, themed around the grotto statues on the ancient Silk Road. Departing from Dunhuang and returning to Dunhuang, the exhibition explores the rich connotations of cultural relics, from the Jade Gate Pass in Dunhuang to the Angkor Wat in Cambodia, from the Mogao Caves to the Longmen Grottoes, from the Feitian (Flying Apsaras) in Jinta Temple to the Leshan Giant Buddha. Mr. Wu Jian uses his lens to seek, discover, and shape beauty, forming a photographic style that integrates science and art, nature and humanity. His distinctive photographic works present and convey to the public the majestic and profound historical style and value connotations of the Silk Road cultural heritage, contributing an extremely precious visual sample to the protection and dissemination of Silk Road cultural heritage. These works, from multiple dimensions such as plane and three-dimensional, time and space, reproduction and expression, comprehensively showcase the cultural heritage along the Silk Road represented by the Dunhuang grottoes and their profound foundation and rich connotations through the language of the lens.
