GINZAN ONSEN - Glittering Fairytale Hotspring Town

Ginzan Onsen is a captivating hot spring town located in the Yamagata Prefecture of Japan. Nestled amidst mountains and surrounded by natural beauty, it attracts tourists from around the world seeking a unique and rejuvenating experience. With a rich history dating back to the Meiji Era, Ginzan Onsen has preserved its traditional charm. It was once a thriving silver mining town but declined after the mines closed. However it experienced a revival in the 1980s when it gained popularity as a tourist destination. The town's architecture is a major draw, with well-preserved wooden ryokans and bathhouses. Walking through the streets, feels like stepping back in time. The winter season adds to the town's allure, as the snow-covered buildings and streets create a magical atmosphere. Exploring the town, you'll find a variety of shops, restaurants, and cafes. Indulge in local cuisine, which often features fresh mountain ingredients and regional specialties. You can also find traditional handicrafts and souvenirs to take home as mementos. In short, Ginzan Onsen offers a well-rounded experience for travelers seeking tranquility and a glimpse into Japan's cultural heritage. How to get there: Shinkansen Bullet Train from Tokyo to Oishida station then take the local bus directly to the town. Whole journey takes about 4-5 hours. #japan #yamagata #tohoku #onsen #hotspring #fairytale #hayaomiyazaki #winter #ginzanonsentrip

Yubaba's Bathhouse from the film "Spirited Away" is absolutely one of the popular places in Yamagata. But I was taking photo with the waterfall. Am I special?

There is such a hot spring town in Yamagata Prefecture, about 4 hours from the bustling Tokyo. I heard it is the prototype of the soup house of Mother-in-law in Spirited Away, and the scenery here is particularly beautiful in addition to the works of Hayao Miyazaki. Yinshan Hot Spring was discovered during the mining of silver ore about 400 years ago. Since then, it has been used as a long-term healing hot spring with a long history. The moment you step on Yinshan Hot Spring Street, you will definitely cross ancient times by yourself, because the building here is a wooden hut from the end of Taisho to the early Showa period. Put on a kimono at night and walk on the snow on both sides of the hot spring. The Buddha entered the dream world of Spirited Away.
