Shunxi Ancient Town in Zhejiang, a poetic scroll through the years

Shunxi Ancient Town is hidden among the mountains and forests, with its history tracing back to the Tang and Song dynasties. It also boasts one of the largest ancient dwelling clusters in southern Zhejiang, with most of the ancient architectural complex built during the Qianlong to Jiaqing period of the Qing dynasty. There are 10 well-preserved, exquisitely decorated large residences, known as the 'Museum of Late Qing Dynasty Residences in Southern Zhejiang'. The nearby old street is about 500 meters long and is a section of the old road from the past. Back then, this place was close to the bamboo raft wharf and was the only ancient road upstream of the Aojiang River in Pingyang. It connected the four counties of Pingyang, Cangnan, Wencheng, and Taishun, situated at the center of the border trade distribution area. The street was mainly lined with wooden eaves and low houses, occasionally with stone-paved floors and storied buildings, and was bustling with shops, once a lively scene.
