Qingxu, formerly known as Gengyang, was established during the Spring and Autumn period. With a long history and rich cultural heritage, it has a history of over 2500 years. Not only does it have Xiangyan Temple, but also Yanxiang Temple. Isn't that amazing?! In 1986, Yanxiang Temple was announced as a 'Shanxi Provincial Protection'. Yanxiang Temple, originally named Ciyun Zen Temple, also known as Dugou Grottoes, is located halfway up the mountain of Tugu Mountain in Dugou Village, Mayu Township, Qingxu County, Shanxi Province. Surrounded by mountains on three sides, with dense water systems and full of grapes and fruits, the scenery is pleasant. Yanxiang Temple has many cultural relics and historical sites, the most famous of which is the grotto from the late Tang period - the Thousand Buddha Cave. During the Shaosheng period of the Northern Song Dynasty (1094-1098), Ciyun Zen Temple was built outside the cave. In the late Qing Dynasty, it was renamed Yanxiang Temple. Since then, there have been several renovations, including the construction of the Jade Emperor Pavilion, Arhat Hall, Dragon King Temple, and Guanyin Pavilion. However, in the 1960s, all the temples were destroyed, leaving only five small grottoes and a stele commemorating the renovation of Ciyun Zen Temple in the 21st year of the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty (1542). 🌈Highlights: ✅Thousand Buddha Cave, originally built during the Northern Wei period and renovated in the early Tang period. The ground is rectangular, divided into front and rear chambers, with a flat top and carved lotus caisson, showing traces of added colors. Inside the cave, there are round sculptures of Shakyamuni, Kasyapa, Ananda, Manjushri, Samantabhadra, and other statues. The left and right walls are carved with high-relief statues of warriors and maidservants, making it a masterpiece of grotto art.
