Lake Rotorua is a famous attraction on New Zealand's North Island, known for its unique geological and ecological value. Located north of Rotorua city in the central-northern part of the North Island, it is the largest of Rotorua's 13 lakes, situated over 230 kilometers from Auckland. About 200,000 years ago, it was formed by a volcanic eruption that caused a depression. After the eruption, the magma chamber collapsed, creating a 16-kilometer-wide circular caldera, which later filled with water to become a lake. The lake's water is emerald green and clear, containing high levels of sulfur, giving it a magical green-blue color. In the center of the lake is Mokoia Island, a circular volcanic rock formed by magma. The lakeside scenery is beautiful, attracting tourists for fishing, swimming, and boating. Visitors can also take a cruise to enjoy the surrounding mountain and water views.
