In the past, Shuili Township was known as 'Little Taipei'

Shuili Township was originally part of Jiji Township. In 1950, it was separated from Jiji Township and established as 'Shuili Township'. In 1966, it was renamed 'Shuili Township' and has retained the name to this day. Shuili Township experienced a golden era due to the flourishing logging industry and timber exports, earning it the nickname 'Little Taipei'. At that time, shops, factories, furniture stores, eateries, and restaurants related to the timber industry were connected, creating an unprecedentedly prosperous scene. With the evolution of time, traditional agricultural industries have declined. In recent years, to seek innovation and change, Shuili Township has actively cooperated with the tourism railway, holding events such as the Water Festival, Train Festival, and cycling races. These activities are combined with cultural tourism industries, aiming for more refined and diversified development. The goal is for Shuili, this mountain town, to once again become an important leisure and tourism area in the central region.
