The Beauty of Baphuon Temple in SiemReap

#Cambodia #siemreap #Historically #Temple The Baphuon, also known as the Bapuon Temple, is situated at the entrance to the North Gate, behind Bayon Temple, and near the Terrace of Elephant in Angkor heritage site. Constructed in the 11th century, precisely between 1060, under the reign of King Udayadityavarman I (1050-1066), this temple was dedicated to Brahmanism. Noteworthy, its carvings on small stone similar to bricks. Unfortunately, only a few of these sculptures have remained. The temple itself takes the form of a cone with five levels composed of sandstone, laterite, and wood. It features Gopuras on all four sides, adorned with intricately crafted sculptures depicting scenes from the Khmer Reamker, as well as sports games . However, a 9-meter tall by 70 meter long statue of a reclining Buddha was built on the west side's second level was just constructed during the Longvek period. Furthermore, this temple is a mountain temple, symbolizing Mount Sumeru, with a surrounding wall measuring 425 × 124 meters. A notable feature of this temple is its 200-meter-long eastern entrance, which comprises a bridge supported by three rows of pillars. Additionally, the temple possesses galleries made of sandstone on its first, second, and third floors.
