Taiyuan Museum ~ Chariot and Horse Pit

The "Exhibition of Zhao Qing's Tomb Chariot and Horse Pit" is an entire "relocation" from its original site to the museum. After more than 2500 years, the rows of chariots and horses still display the ambitious spirit of the tomb owner, with a grandeur that could swallow mountains and rivers. Zhao Qing's ambition was frozen in time along with his chariots. The chariot and horse pit of Zhao Qing's tomb, unearthed in Jinsheng Village, Taiyuan, is the "treasure of the museum" in Taiyuan Museum. "In 1987, a power plant in Taiyuan unexpectedly discovered more than a thousand ancient tombs during its expansion, including the first discovery of the late Spring and Autumn Period tomb of Zhao Qing of the Jin State (numbered M251) and its accompanying chariot and horse pit (numbered M252). Its large scale, high rank, and rich relics are unparalleled in the previously excavated tombs of the Jin State, making it an important physical material for the study of Jin State history."
