⭐️Highlights Mount John is a low hill by Lake Tekapo. On a clear night, it is a great place for stargazing, and during the day, it is a great place to overlook Lake Tekapo. The ranch, blue lake, and town are all in view. 🚏Address Lake Tekapo 7999, New Zealand, west of Lake Tekapo. 📝Walking tips 1️⃣The entrance to the mountain is next to the Tekapo Springs parking lot. It is about 2.2 km from the entrance to the top of the mountain, with an elevation gain of about 302 m. It takes about 40 minutes to walk up or down the mountain, which requires some physical strength. (See the 20th picture for the walking route) 2️⃣The trail is a Z-shaped winding ascent. The entrance section is a road shared by motor vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians, so pay attention to safety. There are relevant signs at the entrance. The middle section is a tree-lined path, and you cannot see Lake Tekapo because it is blocked by trees. The latter section is a path in the grassland of the mountain pasture, and the top is exposed joint stones. 3️⃣There is a wire fence and a simple iron gate on the way, which need to be opened and closed by yourself to prevent the sheep from running out. 4️⃣There is the University of Canterbury Observatory and the Astro Cafe on the top of the mountain. The cafe is usually open from 9 am to 3 pm.
