Wuhan, this ancient Confucian temple dating back a thousand years, is the oldest university in China

Cheering for my hometown! As a cultural landmark of Xinzhou District in Wuhan, it has stood at the doorstep of my old home for two thousand years. The academy was founded between 164 BC and 122 BC during the Western Han Dynasty when Liu An, the King of Huainan, built a temple here, which was the precursor to the Wenjin Academy, known as the 'Confucius Temple'. During the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty, the academy was officially named 'Wenjin', which means 'inquiring about the path'. Wenjin Academy carries the Confucian ideology and has inherited the palatial architectural complex of Chinese culture. The unique 'front temple and back courtyard', 'upper temple and lower school' system showcases Confucian culture and Confucian thought to the world. On the back mountain, there survives a statue of Confucius (visible at the very top when zoomed in on image two). Every year during the college and high school entrance exam season, many parents bring their children here to pray, hoping for their names to be inscribed on the golden list of successful candidates.
