Xiaoting Ancient Battlefield: A Legendary Battlefield

Xiaoting Ancient Battlefield is located at the border of Xiaoting District and Wujiagang District in Yichang, Hubei Province. It is located between National Highway 318 and the Yangtze River, and faces Jingmen Mountain in Yidu, Hubei Province across the river.  History Origin of the name: Xiaoting was first named in the Han Dynasty. Dictionaries such as Shuowen Jiezi explain that "Xiao" means "the roar of a tiger" and "Ting" means an ancient administrative region. At the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Zhang Fei built a pavilion here, and the pillars of the pavilion were carved like roaring tigers, hence the name Xiaoting. Important battles: This is one of the few ancient battlefields in China, where many famous battles took place, such as Bai Qi burning Yiling, Gongsun Shu building a pontoon bridge, the Battle of Xiaoting in the Three Kingdoms period, the Western Jin Dynasty's attack on Wu and the destruction of Xisai, Fan Meng's beheading of Xiao Ji in Xiling, the Liang and Chen Dynasties' attack on Shu and the horizontal cable bridge, Yang Su's defeat of the Chen army in the Sui Dynasty, the Tang army's night attack on Xiao Xian, and the Qing army's suppression of Wu Sangui. Famous battle - Battle of Xiaoting Background: In 221 AD, Liu Bei led a large army to attack Eastern Wu to avenge the death of Guan Yu. Battle process: Sun Quan appointed Lu Xun as the Grand Commander. Lu Xun held his ground and did not fight. When the Shu army camped in the mountains and forests to avoid the heat, he ordered his soldiers to bring straw and set fire to the camp, and the Shu army was defeated. Impact: This battle established the tripartite division of Wei, Shu, and Wu, and was the last of the three major battles of the Three Kingdoms. Main attractions Jiuzhandi: The plaque hangs high at the entrance of the riverside corridor, indicating that this place is a dangerous pass with frequent wars. - Chusai Tower: A landmark ancient-style building by the river, with carved beams and painted rafters, and high bucket arches, offering a distant view of the Yangtze River and the Yangtze River Highway Bridge. Dragon Totem: Has a unique symbolic meaning. Poetry Stele Gallery: Displays many poetry steles related to the ancient battlefield. - Qu Fu Pavilion: One of the attractions along the way. Military Camp Square: Facing the Yangtze River, with beautiful scenery around, and attractions such as the Shouting Spring. Ancient plank road: Located on the cliff of Huyashan Mountain, 1,500 meters long, first excavated in the 53rd year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty. Viewing platform: Offers views of the surrounding scenery. Beacon tower: An important ancient military communication facility. Military cave: An ancient military camp. Zhang Fei's Drum Tower: It is said that Zhang Fei beat drums here to train sailors.
